Is it ok to grant herbal or other human prescription to cats?
I know there is herbal extract available online specifically labeled to be for pets/cats. I couldn't find it in nearby pet stores. But I found indistinguishable ingredients in a health store (for humans not pets). Specifically, this would be echinacea goldenseal extract.
Maybe the formula and strength is different and the way the response will be for human body or cat system, so not certain if it is ok or how the dosage would change.
My kitten possibly has a gentle sinus infection because of a nose booger (black and soft) constantly reappearing in just only nostril. An online vet recommended certain immune system boosting remedies...
The most dicey thing that can happen is if you tender the herbs for a lengthened time, which would simply create a tolerance, resulting in the herbs losing effectivity. Herbs that are not dangerous for humans are safe for mammals in general. Yay for you for choosing herb, and for being safe.
Lysine is safe for cats, it's an amino tart their body can use and it helps the immune system and the eyes.
I don't know much else in the way of herb that is safe for cats to consume, you really do need to phone a holistic vet to ask on ANYTHING until that time you give it. I know tea tree oil is toxic to felines, as is anything with aspirin.
I wouldn't give my pets just anything. if you grain it needs something, by all means, check beside your vet, first. Youhave a lot of love and feeling invested in your pet, not tomention money, so please don't try to store money or take chances by giving something that isn't meant for them. For example, onions and chocolate are not designed for the pets, no matter how much we love it. and table food is meant to stay on the table, and give your pets their pet treats.
I wouldn't help yourself to one of my pet's mend, so I definitely wouldn't give them one of mine (i weigh a lot more than any of my kittens!) LOL!
Please
NO it is not ok. Don't give your cat advil, motrin, or any benevolent of medicine like that. just one medication of advil KILLS a cat.
Answers: Herbal remedies may soothe symptoms temporarily but will not kill the germs causing the infection. Your kitten needs to see a vet. Respiratory infections can get down into the chest and produce pneumonia. Many cat has met it's demise from homemade and online vetting. While there are a very few human medicine which can safely be given to cats under vet supervision, just giving something to your cat because some website said it be ok is very dangerous.
In truth, there is no road a vet or anyone else could make a diagnosis or accurately recommend treatment online. A physical examination is required.
