Kitten can cry but not successfully meow...is that a problem?
My kitten, Ted, is 4 months old, and I've had him for 1 month. He's gotten the hang of "crying" when he hear my voice but is in another room and can't get to me (I have roommates, so he stays surrounded by my room/bathroom/hallway when I'm not home), but when he opens his mouth to meow, little to no noise comes out. It looks like he's trying to do it, it's only that not much sound is happening yet. Is that a problem? I know he CAN vocalize because he can cry, but he doesn't hold a "meow," even when he tries. He does wear a collar, but I check it daily (since he's growing so fast!) to make certain that it's not too tight, and it's fine.
don't worry, when i first got my kitten he didn't even know how to meow or hiss or growl and i found it cute that he thought opening his mouth will in recent times make a sound but he learned it from my 5 year matured cat. um try meowing at him. lol
You need to do way instain kitten. What cat meow that can make clatter but not moew? I heard it on the news this mroing. A kitten in la who grow to big to fat and now cant not mewow. He rushed to the hsoptol to get emergency suregy and he turned out ok but then deceased. Luckkily the newborn kittens made it out OKAY. I am truely sorry for your lots.
Answers: You have no reason to worry. :)
When a kitten get older, their meows become more mature, as their vocal cords grown-up.
Also, cats use their voices much like people do. People can shush, yell, mumble, etc. Cats do the same thing. Often times, they may enjoy a different meow for everything. One for when he's hungry, another for when he wants attention, etc, quite the same as human babies have different cries.
I have one cat who is very vocal and scream out his opinions, whereas his sister makes like a 'eehhhhhhh...' generous of meow, as if she can't be bothered to put the effort into her meow.
As long as your kitten is eating, drinking and playing, he's really fine :)
