My cat newly have surgery and isn't drinking?
My four year old cat had surgery a few days ago because he ate an eraser. The surgery went all right and he came home yesterday but he isn't eating. Last dark he ate a few pieces of dry food but other than that nothing! We've tried tempting him near everything but nothing holds his interest. He's not drinking either and all he does is sleep. He tried to drink some sea today but sneezed and stopped trying. Please help! He's usually so lively and it's really tricky to see him like this!
When my have surgery we were advise not to let her get through solids for a couple of days.
If she still doesn't eat in a day or 2 I regard you should bring him to the vet coz he might get dehydrated. :(
Hope everything goes powerfully. :)
I'm certain he's just trying to rest..
He's just had a traumatic experience, and is trying to "regroup". He wants some "down time". Leave his water close by, and leave him alone.
If he hasn't started eating by tomorrow, nickname your vet and explain...but, meantime, fluids are better for him.even some chicken noodle soup (broth). You might try warming some up and offering it to him. The smell of the broth might "perk" him up.
Anything "solid" that he eats is going to have to be "pooped", and he's probably too sore to want to use those muscles right in a minute.
Hope he feels better soon..Good luck.
Answers: talk to your vet and see what they suggest, a phone telephone is free! I would get a syringe (no needle) and force feed him water to net sure he stays hydrated. You may need to add sea to canned food and syringe feed him that until he wants to put away. Did he eat well when he was at the vet after the surgery?
a full 24 hours of not wanting to eat is pretty typical, but anything after that should be mentioned to your vet. your vet will probably want to do a re-check and might prescribe anti-biotics, pain medication and or an appetite stimulatn.
Please, call your vet and update what is going on.
Your cat needs to go wager on to the vet asap. Cats cannot go very long with out consumption before there starts to be liver issues. (hepatic lipidosis) Not to mention he was probably doing alot of vomitting earlier the surgery. The chances that he is starting to get dehydrated are pretty glorious.
