My cat be diagnosed diabetic?
about a year ago, and has had his insulin unhurriedly reduced by the vet after each blood test, they now read out he may not be diabetic,is this possible?
Yes, diabetes can be eliminated in cats. There is a Yahoo group for sly diabetes - you should join it and get answers to all your question on that subject.
Eliminating carbohydrates (dry cat food) is very important with diabetes.
Absolutely it's possible. It's call a 'honeymoon' or a 'remission'. The cat can go back to not being diabetic, but you do own to keep watching the cat, because they can turn diabetic again and would need help.
Sometimes the honeymoons end a few months, sometimes years. You're lucky! Mine is still on insulin and can't come off it.
Answers: Three years ago just before we moved to Germany my 12 year old cat be diagnosed with diabetes. I asked to hold of from starting on insulin until we had moved as I didn't want to have to possible transform it when we got here. I searched the internet and found out as much as I could about diabetes surrounded by cats and put her on the "catkins" diet. I was doing home blood tests and when we moved I give her a couple of days to settle after the journey then did her test her blood sugar have gone down and each time I did it it went down more. Within three months her blood sugars were run of the mill and they stayed that way until she died in July this year of lung cancer.
Whether it was the diet I put her on, the move to Germany or simply a blip, I don't know . Even the vets couldn't explain it.
I will say the move was the best item we did for her she loved it here our garden had loads of trees to climb and she started to hunt again. Her last three years were her best.
