New cat - how do I introduce her to my dog?
There has been this cat hanging around our barn for around a month now, and I have been little by little building her trust. She finally let me pick her up yesterday. Once I did she immediately turned from "wild" to a big baby. She requests me to pet her all the time - well every time I go external.
My husband and I have a 2yr old Pug that is spoiled rotten. We brought her inside yesterday to see how she would take action to our Pug, and she was scared to death of him. He doesn't really caution about cats, he just wants to sniff them and dance about his business. My mom has a cat and I run him with me when I visit her and he never pays any attention to the cat, so I know its not an issue for him.
We would like to maintain the cat inside but do not want to make the living situation unbearable for us and the animals. What should we do? Should we leave her at peace external, or try to introduce her to the dog again? If anyone has any suggestions on how to do this I would appreciate it.
Answers: Awwww, poor little thing!
I've had oodles cats and kittens, and they almost always freak when they meet our dog even though she won't mar them.
Since she's just new to your house, I'd suggest confining her to one room for something like a week, as she's under alot of stress now.
When your ready to introduce them, try putting the dog contained by a cage, and letting her look at him- its important to let her know the dog won't hurt her. Try showing her the dog every light of day for a little while. It may take a while, but I almost guarentee that she will grasp used to it.
For one of my kitties, she was scared skinny at first, but by the subsequent day she was sleeping between the dogs paws!=]
But another freaked at first and be scared for a while, and now she's still a bit timid, though not uncomfterable. It just depends on the cat. Also it may run her a while longer as she hasn't grown up with dogs.
Have fun with your new kitty! I'm certain she's much happier with a home now!

I strongly recommend not letting them eat together.
what u can do whether they are both inside is keep 1 of them (dog) on a leash by your side while ur watching tv. Put the cat near by, but not in striking scale of the dog. Let them watch each other for a lil while.
The best thing to do would be smear dog food adjectives over the cat and let them both free around the house. only joking!
