What do I nurture little " runt " kitten?
I have a litter of five kittens and one has not been growing and is getting puny. The other four are getting big and too aggressive and push her off when she is trying to nurse. I was thinking of trying to get some of that mile from the vet office and try to feed her between her mothers feedings. Anyone have experience beside this problem I would love to know what you did and if it worked. Thanks.
I have closely of cats, and some were kittens and we fed them all something call "KMR" Its a milk replacement for kittens if the mother isnt there or something. You can go to petsmart and buy a powder or gooey can of it, its expensive though. You would also want to but a baby bottle for kittens. It is a lot of work because you would have to nurture the kitten every 3 or 4 hours or so.
Good luck!
Little one requirements KMR mother's milk replacement. It's mixed with warm water and feed through, what I prefer, a feeding syringe. (Your vet will probably give you one, they're cheap)
She needs to be force-fed every 3 hours, and start right absent. If she's not getting her mother's milk, she's also probably very dehydrated which is the number one killer within kittens.
Do the pinch test on her back fur, just verbs up some back skin and if it doesn't go down promptly, then she's dehydrated and needs Immediate vet assistance to receive Sub-Q (Subcutaneous) fluids... I mean truly - if she's parched she could pass at any time' and needs to be getting fluids! Once she's regained her fluid level, the feedings every 3 hours with the KMR mixture will be good.
Answers: We had a stray cat that would have litters of kittens at most minuscule 3 times a year and bring them to us (Oh happy day) and she often had this arise.
Most pet stores sell formula for kittens who are too young to eat regular food but no longer enjoy a mom to feed from. I would suggest getting that formula and feeding the kitten yourself.
If you aren't predisposed to do that, try removing the other kittens when you notice they aren't feeding and let the runt nurture by herself. But that method does not always work.
I would suggest formula feeding.
feed it soya milk or a cream with a eye dropper or a large plastic seringe
