What does a veterinarian typically charge to euthanize a cat?

Our 18 year old cat is just about equipped to join the turf club. According to my wife, the vet wants $250 to put her to sleep. Does that seem ridiculously illustrious?
I work at a vet clinic and generally ours is around 100 for the office visit and the euthanasia. 250 is high. We do charge more whether the owner wants a cremation for the pet and if they want a special urn.
They will charge you the appointment tax, ours is $35. The overdose of anesthetic and the catheter is $15 (same price as for a rabbit) and they charge a disposal fee (usually they cremate) of $50, but if you take the body next to you that's not charged.

Ask your vet how they break down their costs, you may not need the cremation fee on it.

$250 may be the whole cost whether they return the ashes to you, that's usually an added $ amount that, if added to the above listed, may bring it up to around $200, but the $250 seem too high actually.

Phone around, vets own different prices.

I'm sorry for your impending loss. It's not easy to go through that with a loved pet.
Check beside the Humane Society and other animal organizations to see if they are willing to serve you out. Also some vets will put them to sleep at your home.
My clinic charges $56, and cremation can range from $50 to $350, depending on the size of the pet and whether you want the ashes returned to you.
Answers:    Depends on several things. First, your location. Second, has your pet been to the vet before only just? It's against the law to euthanize an animal without first having a client-patient relationship (i.e the vet have to examine the animal). Depending on individual clinic policy, the vet may want to perform some bloodwork or something of that nature to diagnose the problem before euthanizing.
I paid a total of 68 dollars. In Upstate NY
