What is the best pet for a 5 year old-fashioned boy?
a 5 year old does not have the capability to rob care of an animal, so you will end up having to help yourself to care of the animal so get what animal you will be willing to hold care of for the rest of it's life. please adopt.
I really dont have an idea of what a good pet for a five year older boy with be. Most children at that age really dont understand how rough they can be, its surprizing how strong a five year old is too.
I would reccomend a cat, since kittens scrape a lot I would look for an older cat that is any declawed or tame. this is a low maintence pet. I suggest keeping the cat indoors.
I had a declawed cat that would do fine outdoors he would hunt adjectives the time bringing home birds mice rats and moles. he could climb trees and fight very economically.
your local animal shelter may have an older cat that has be declawed and or fixed. I would be worried having a smaller child and a kitten with claws. its very straightforward to get bad infections from their nails, when they see up litter they get pee and poop underneath them and if you cut with their claw it probably have that underneath which can cause bad infections.
Other than that I have no other guidance, just use your judgment.

Guinea pigs are larger than hamsters and are easier to hold, so theres less arbitrary of the animal getting hurt.
They also can live for 8 years while a hamster only usually lives about 2.
Guinea pigs dont bite nearly as habitually and when they do, they usually give a small bite that doesn't hurt, to let you know they don't close to what your doing and gives your child plenty of time to stop what they're doing.
One of my favorite things about them is you can feed them grass, apples, celery, hay its particularly fun for young kids to get to feed them these things.
On a harness leash they can also budge out side :D
I would get a cat! They are low maintenance and totally sweet, most of the time :) Your son can have the responsibility of giving it fresh water and food every day, scooping out the litter box, and giving it lots of <3. You purely have to worry about a once a year vet check up and shots. Cats are great with kids, and I would even suggest getting one that is 2 years ancient or so. They are calmer at that age. My cat is 4 now and he is finally settling down. He use2 be crazy and would play bite, which I don't know what a 5 year old would imagine about that.
It depends on the kid, but I agree with the answerer who mentioned that immature kids don't really know their own strength. Sometimes they will get so excited by, say, a kitten, and end up harm the kitten by trying to play with it. I would recommend going to your local humane society chapter or other pet-rescue organization/shelter and adopting a dog. Ask the people working within if they have any recommendations for specific pets that are significant enough so that a 5-year-old can't injure them, but gentle enough so that they will not injure the 5-year-old.
I would propose getting an older dog rather than a puppy, since they've phased out of a lot of the blustery romping and you can get a better gauge on their personality and whether or not they are an just right pet for you. Also, the older dogs often have to linger a long time to be adopted since many people approaching to get puppies, so you will be helping out a sweet old dog who might otherwise not find a home for a long time, whether ever.

I don't know but it's NOT a cat or kitten. Unless this boy is a very gentle soul. In which case it would be fine to procure him an adult cat but not a kitten. That would mean TWO kids for the parent(s) to deal near.
I would say a nice friendly kitten.
Goldfish, kids don't know how to handle animals. I wouldn't reccommend cats or dogs. Maybe return with him a hamster.
If you're willing to clean the shut within and give it attention, why not try a gerbil or a guinea pig?
Guinea pigs are easy for your son to hold but gerbils are fun to watch.
If you do not want to step that route, try a betta fish. They are very easy to take prudence of and don't require TOO much space! :)
