What is the difference between consumption and smelling catnip for cats?
not much, it doesn't really translate the effects. they just love to sniff/eat it and get as much as they can
It's similar to a drug for them. Smelling and eating are basically the same but they take more taste with the mouth. Don't let your cat devour too much 'nip or they'll get sick. My cats barfed up catnip all over the windowsill today. o.o
Answers: They smell with their noses and eat near their mouths. It's the same thing. I put it on my cat's toys every few months and she smells them and then chews on them... she's never gotten sick.
The only difference I've noticed in ours is that whether they eat it they just get sleepy. If they smell it they bring back all hyper at first, doing rolling and playing, then they get sleepy.

They eat it to help out aid in digestion. They smell it to get..well.. soaring I guess :)
