Will my Cat run absent?
Hi i have a 13 year old long haired tabby cat. We were thinking of getting a puppy. I be told that older cats run away thinking that they are not loved if you return with a puppy. Is it true??
i have a sneaking suspicion that it is true of any species that if they are not loved then they will run away
whether you to not love your pet then i suggest you giving it to a better owner who will care for the pet sincerely (no offence)
but really whether you weren't loved how would that make you feel, actually you wouldn't know because you probably can't truely imagine of the pain...
I think it will run away or attack the dog whether the cat feels left out
Age have nothing to do with it. Cats that have be alone can often get their noses out of reciprocal when a new critter enters the house. Just introduce them slowly, don't let the puppy win up in their face too much and lavish praise on the cat whether it does anything neutral or positive towards the puppy. There may be a few hisses and swatting in the beginning, this is commonplace and usually they work it out themselves.
A younger animal can often rejuvenate an older animal.
Yes, lock your cat within the closet and do not let it see the puppy.
Or else it will run away and be hit by a car.
If your cat has never lived beside another animal it might get a bit stressed about a puppy. If you do get a puppy you will call for to make sure the introduction is slow and positive for both animals. Keep the cat in a closed room where on earth it can smell the puppy under the door. You might need to do this for a couple of days till your cat feels comfortable beside the puppy smell. When introducing them face to face, keep the puppy on a organize and reward it for sitting quietly. If it tries to jump at the cat, a strong "no" will reinforce that the cat is not a play toy.
Ultimately your cat will need to be capable of escape from the puppy when need be. Provide the cat with access to rooms the puppy can't go into.
Hopefully your cat and puppy will become best friends ! If they don't at first, don't verbs. Persistence and good training will pay off.
I hope this help with your decision. I know it is a hard one. I hold a cat myself and we want to get a puppy but aren't sure how she will react.
No it will show that it runs the house though! Same happened to me.
I really think it varies beside the cat. Not all cats would take things the same instrument, just as not all humans would. Perhaps exposing your cat to the puppy in small amounts will allow it to attain used to the puppy's presence. If that fails, you can try to cut off all contact between the two. But I doubt you'll in actual fact have trouble if you do still show your cat affection...
No way! Your Cat will be really angry for a while, but Im sure it will procure over it. I have a 15 year old cat and shes had other pets surrounded by her life as recent as last summer and she hasn't gone anywhere. Cats usually stay where on earth the food is. Yes... your cat will be mad for a little bit and might even hide, but Im pretty certain your cat of 13 years is not moving out.
Not necessarily.
Just don't neglect the cat, bring in sure he/she still gets attention and love along with the puppy. Quite normally, a younger, more frisky animal in the house will liven up older pets more than hurt them. All depends on their temperaments.
i have a cat this age who go in and out. we also have 5 other cats(temporarily) and she always comes posterior
Not really, my cat is as old as yours but have never run away. We have even gotten multiple other kittens in our domestic, but our cat has still never run away from home. There are times when he is gone for a interval of time, but he eventually starts coming back everyday.
i don't think you cat will run absent, but it really depend on your cat. i have a cat and got a puppy and she adjusted . she be bigger than him so i don't think she took him as a treat. i still have them both
No!! That's not true. Just make sure the cat see's you petting the puppy to let her know it's not going to hurt her. At first she'll be scared, but the more she's around the puppy she'll actually start to play with it.
no
I have never hear this. It will take a little while, probably about a week, but the two enjoy to get used to each other. They may fight. I would ask a vet what you could do to engineer the process easier.
No, that's not true.
They will eventually obtain used to each other.
Is your cat an outside cat? If it's an inside cat, how is it going to run away? Will you love both of the animals the same, and try to contribute them both attention? These are things to think of.
no that's not true there might be a moment or two hissing and the pup might get a we bit to excited so try and keep the pup on a lead when you first introduce them adjectives that will happen is the pip will want to play and the cat will be basically saying attain lost im the BOSS here and what i say goes i manged to have 1 cat and 2 dogs contained by the same house and the cat was the boss no messing if they did not stay still to grasp there face washed she dug her claws into within noses to tell them of it was quit comical some times the entity that the 3 of them got up to it was like have kids in the house sometimes good luck
/ No, that's not true.
Dogs and cats who live together, love eachother - regardless of age.
yes, and if your cat sees conntact with a dog, it might surface suicidal and run under a car, lock it in the closet and do not nurture it.
Your pets will get used to respectively other.
Just make sure to show both animals an equal amount of affection.
I have never hear that but you might want to wait until your old kitty passes...you don't want your kitty to consistency old and sad!
When we got our puppy we put butter on the cats paws. No idea what it does but she didn't turn!
Answers: lol..your 13 year old cat might get very upset, and pee surrounded by your shoes to punish you, but the chances of her running away are slim unless u get a dog that will terrorise her. Its her domain thats gonna be intruded upon, so tolerate her meet the pup on her territory, inside the house, and dont chastise her if she growls and hisses. She should be allowed to vocalise her anger lol (and it might stop her peeing contained by you shoes ifn ya let her get it off her chest lol)
we hold never had a problem, and after introducing our 6 week old rotty to our 11 year old cat, they used to curl up and sleep together lol
well whether that is the case, Get your cat microchiped so you know where to find it!
some cats do that, my cat run away when i scolded her for ingestion our supper, never see her again =<
anyway, just show your pet cat that she/he is still the number one for you..
nooo...you just gotta introduce them slowly.dont forget to pay more attetnion to your cat at first...apposite luck mate
It is true whether your new dog chases your cat around a lot and you only concentrate on the dog. Just manufacture sure that you pay a lot more attention to your cat and form it feel loved and it should stay. However think about whether you really want a dog first if your worried about your cat.
no
Lol. No. Cats don't care. They think they own you.
yea but he will come back they know were they live
No your cat will not run absent. It will be stressful for the cat for a while until the cat gets used to the puppy. Some cats take to puppies right away and others hatred them and never interact. You will have to wait and see which kind you hold. Just give kitty lots of lovin's, feed him/her away from the puppy and keep hold of pup away from the litter box and things will work out.
