11 Month Old Dog Scared to Walk/Pees contained by My Room?
I have an 11 month old maltipoo. He is technically house trained because throughout the day he merely pees in the backyard. Then at around 8 PM I attempt to walk him. If I just articulate anything that sounds like walk, he instantly freezes, gives me a dreadful look, and wont move. I know its not the body leash because it fits fine. Its actually amusing because when the body leash is on him he will not even budge! Even if I have a treat out he won't even look at it, but right when I lift it off he lunges for it. When I leave the house he is always running ahead of me, trying to finish as quick as possible (he knows the route home). He usually poops during the walk, but never pees. Then when I get hold of home he is just dying to get inside. Then at darkness he sleeps in my bed and once in a while he jumps rotten the bed in the middle of the night and pees on the carpet. We freshly had it steam cleaned and we want no more accidents. I always cut him bad from water/food at around 9 or 10, but sometime he cries at the water bowl and I always cave surrounded by to give him some, I don't want him to be thirsty at night. I don't know what to do, he needs to conquer his nervousness of outside, (side story- about a week ago I was walking him and a dog followed by two kids come running at me, I assumed it was their dog and they told me it was, after about a minute of sniffing, the neighbors dog bit my dog within the neck and would not let go. I soon ripped him past its sell-by date and threw him aside. He came right back so I put my foot out to stop him, then I scream at the kids because it wasn't their dog, then they told me that they FOUND HIM! At this point I was furious and the kids apologized for lying. Thank God he had adjectives his shots!) But even before the attack he was scared to walk on walks, so I don't know what it is. BTW he is NOT neutered :( Thanks in mortgage :)
First I would try a collar. When you say body leash do you mingy harness? If so, try a collar. Then before you let him out back during the sunshine, attach the leash and walk him out. He feels comfortable there. Let him seize used to walking with the leash around your own yard. Let him pee and bring him in. Same point at night. Your dog can go 8 hours without dampen at night. If you MUST give in, dispense him just a small amount. Take him out back on the leash right before bed. After roughly speaking 3 days of this, he will anticipate the leash and look forward to it since he knows that is the time he gets to jump out. Start taking him outside the yard. Do baby steps and don't force him. Just try to turn a little farther each time, maybe stand near a bit, then come back. Always reassure and praise him during adjectives of his leash walks.I think if he learn he can do it gradually, he will become accustomed to it. Good luck.
i would recommend a trainer to help your puppy...
the attacks scared it even more.
Answers: Your dog might be a little stressed or overwhelmed by having a sudden change within the environment. There's also a chance your dog is forgetting to pee while being outside, considering the dog's age. Being young at heart, your dog might be excited and forgets. However, because it seems he is afraid of the outdoors, I would say that he's not too excited. But he goes poop because he might quality a tummy ache when he needs to go. When you walk outside with your dog for a walk, try and compliment him as much as possible to teach him that the outdoors is a good place to be. As soon as you walk external praise him. But do not praise when he is running in front of you. Have you trained him to sit/heal? If so, go and get him to sit and praise him. Then say walk. Then whether he doesn't walk and he just runs, have him alleviate and repeat the process. Puppies are pretty quick at picking up things. I know you said he didn't seem interested in the treats. Try using human food. I typically use chicken. Chicken have had the best result in training. Have a bunch of shredded chicken with you, so when we does what you want him to do compliment and give him chicken. I don't know if you have ever hear of clicker training, but it is a very effective way to train your dog. Click, and treat. That bearing he learns that the clicker noise means he'll return with a treat. Before using the clicker, you have to train him to get use to the clicker if you are going to use it. Once he does something flawless like sit, heal, or whatever positive entry you wanted him to do click and treat. And repeat until you think he learns what that swish means. You could use it on the walks also. However, you can also eliminate the clicker whether you do not want to use it. But I really suggest using chicken as positive reinforcement. With your story, your dog may be also afraid of dogs being outside. Just contained by case this might be it, you should train the dog to like dogs. Have one of your friends' or family members' dogs oblige you in this training. What you do is have your dog stand on one side of a field, park patio, room, etc. and have the other dog stand on the the opposite side of the area. Then move the dog closer and closer to the dog. If your dog starts to tug towards the dog, put your foot the other way. And repeat that process until your dog doesn't tug the leash anymore. And definitely praise the dog once he is competent to be by the dog. That training is what I would want you to do first, just to be safe that your dog has no dog aggression. Then, enjoy the 'helper' have their dog walk on one side of an area (like back, when you are on side and the other dog is on the opposite side) and as soon as your dog sees that dog say something approaching 'Look boy, there's a dog. Yay. Dogs are good.' And praise your dog when he sees another dog, unless he growls. Give him a piece of chicken (or anything you prefer) every time the other dog passes into view, showing your dog that it is a good article to have another dog. Try walking him at a different time of the light of day and put a collar on him instead of the harness. The harness seems to be the trigger factor.
Very short walks to start off near and gradually build up as he becomes more confident. Also have him neuter. Other entire male dogs may see him as a threat and pick on him.
As for the peeing during the night. It looks like you will call for to get up during the night and take him external to pee. Many small dogs can't hold on for the whole night.
I agree a trainer may back your man. Possibly take him to a new place that he has no issues near. Do something fun and quick. Next day some place different, same thing and so on. unmarked places new memory's
less baggage?
