2 question something like my puppy who have distemper?

1st question is - I have 3 dogs and the other dog are fully vaccinated against distemper. the vet say it's ok while online vets say it's not which is it? Can my healthy dogs attain distemper if they are vaccinated. 2nd - she's in the neurological phase of distemper where on earth she has uncontrolled movements, she can't walk all the time and she have had one grand mal seizure. Even beside all this she eats like a horse, will try to come when you call for her and still cleans herself and cries to go outside. What are her chances of survival? (she have seen a vet & he immeidately told us to put her to sleep so Im looking for alternatives since her chance is 50/50)
There is no healing treatment for Canine Distemper Virus (CDV), but you can try treating the symptoms to support your puppy's efforts at survival. This would include antibiotics to prevent opportunistic infections, seizure treatments, and more. Know in mortgage that she is likely to suffer some permanent neurological damage along near other major to minor lifelong health problems if she does survive.

According to a veterinary study you can find within the last site posted below, about 90% of immunized dogs will not be susceptible to infection when then exposed to the CDV, but about 10% will. Make sure your puppy has no contact whatsoever near unvaccinated dogs, though, because she will be infectious for up to three months after recovery and will shed the virus into her environment all of that time.

Many years ago I rescued a German Shepherd that, I later found, have survived distemper before I got him. The vet told me that it must have be a mild case of distemper, though, because he suffered no noticeable neurological spoil. He did tend all his life to be way too wasted, although he ate well; he had soft, stained teeth; and he was susceptible to adjectives sorts of respiratory infections, one of which killed him when he was about ten years infirm. He was a fine dog, and I don't regret the extra care or expense he required, but I would not enjoy been able to afford the neccessary care have he been more severely damaged.

I wish the thoroughly best of luck to both you and your puppy.
Well, the way I see it, is.there is a 50/50 adjectives the sick dog will survive and a 50/50 chance the other 2 could get distemper. There are no guarantees. The outcome of all depends on abundant things. You can only wait and see. I understand Distemper is on the rise. So mind your Ps and Qs. I have had dogs that had their shots die of Parvo.
Answers:    Once a dog starts having seizure, there is very little that can be done. You need to return with some sort of anticonvulsants for the puppy,as well as an antibiotic to treat secondary infection.Cephalexin crosses the blood/brain barrier,so it is a worthy choice. You need to keep the dog warm, and still, make sure she eats and drinks.Feed her Pedialyte, chicken soup and gain some colostrum capsules if you can find them ( try a health food store.) Keep her muzzle and eyes cleaned out and sanitize your yard with a bleach solution other dogs won't catch it whether they should pass through your yard. You might want to get your other dogs re-vaccinated to be protected and minimize their contact with the puppy. Some pups can survive, but be prepared to lose her.

Lee Lee,
My Vet always told Me if one of your dogs gets Distemper or Parvo you inevitability to have them re-vaccinated to make sure they are all right protected.
A 50/50 chance is a good start.. Make sure she drinks lots of dampen,if she doesn't get a dropper for giving medicine to pets and steep it up all the way and shoot slowly down her throat(do this every hour on the hour) Them same as water pass her Pepto Bismarck(make sure it's 1 full teaspoon) and give this slowly, she won't like this but be paid sure you do this(every hour on the hour) you won't get must sleep for about 3 days but all right worth it. I had a pup who had Parvo and this is what My Vet told Me to do. It worked in 3 days My pup be felling better and doing well on her own. Just stick with it and do what i own told you and she will pull through this My Friend.
