Dog manly or feminine which is best?
Want to buy a puppy german shepherd. Male or female which is best for family pet/guard dog
I have two german shepherds, one male and one female. They both yap equally when a stranger comes to the door. They are both loving family members. Male vs female comes down to a purely personal conclusion. Most males do seem to be a little more laid back than most females but I've met individuals of both gender at either extreme. It is said that males tend to be more protective of territory while females tend to be more protective of their people, although I don't know that there's any truth to that at adjectives. Regardless of which gender you go with you NEED to socialize them heavily as puppies whether you want a confident adult dog that would be capable of protecting you as an adult minus being aggressive in inappropriate situations.
You also involve to realize that it will be more than a year before you can reasonably expect a german shepherd puppy to "protect" you or your property in a material life situation, so if you want to feel "protected" contained by the immediate future consider adopting an fully developed dog from rescue. An adult dog would be a deterrent the day you bring them home, whereas no one's going to be reticent of a 4 month old puppy, and most rescues are full of young adult shepherds within the 1-3 year age range as this is when most people get tired of the commitment as they realize that a german shepherd is in recent times a little too much dog for them.
Personal opinion, either masculine or female will make a loving, devoted pet. Through research, males tend to grow bigger than females and females can also come into heat and attain 'moody' when in heat. Whether you decide to procure a male or female either sex should be castrated or neuter as this will prevent unwanted litters and unwanted behavior.
It's not the sex of the dog that you get, it's the determination, love and training that the owner gives the dog that really counts. Either sex will make a suitable pet whether trained properly. If you are at all concerned with choice of sex then please consult your vet since buying and also, always buy from a reputable breeder that lets you see both parents before you buy, nick someone experienced along with you to guarantee that the dog that you wish to buy has a fitting temperament and is in good health. The dog should not own been weaned to early and should not have ANY discharge from eyes, ears or muzzle.
Hope this Helps,
female coz males cock their legs up all over the place including your domestic females are calmer and cleaner then males
As young children are not an issue here i do not think it things really whether male or female. I like GSD's though it is moderately a few years now since we had one but a guard dog does not have to be huge. Our Parson Jack Russell is pretty territorial and has an impressive set of 'gnashers' which i sure would not want sunk into my leg. She also have a surprisingly 'big dog' sort of bark.
An intruder is unlikely to enter a house that has a dog barking, whether it be big or small. In 40 years of dog ownership, big and small, the best 'guard' dog we ever have was a minature Schnauzer (which is only min compared to the full size ones).
Answers: I would say masculine if you are getting it for protection as they grow bigger than bitches!!
Female dogs dance in to heat if not spayed.
masculine dogs are very hyper when there young
females are thoroughly protective. & so i think this would be better for you.
But you should buy it as a PET not a guard dog.
both consequently you can get em to make more
I have a Tibetan Terrier dog. Very rare breed. Like the Lhasa Apso. But comes to give or take a few knee high.
In the breed of the dog, he protects and guards the house or car.
sounds typically like any man i know lol
Personally id say male but iv one and only ever had male dogs. But females tend to sometimes be snappy and not so laid back as males.
"Best" for WHO?
"Best"at WHAT?
Dogs are cheaper to castrate than bitches are to spay.
&...NO dog will "protect" ANYTHING w/out MONTHS of expensive PROFESSIONAL TRAINING!!
Running around, barking hysterically is *NOT* "protection!!
A pack of ankle-biters is a better "burglar-alarm".
for some reason my mum has always have female dogs, she has a reason but i cant remember, sorry thats not highly helpful, but if u want a dog to protect ur house then probs a manly dog
This is only a personal preference. Nothing else.
Oi! Oi! Maria! :))

Notice how every answer got one :))))
This is a forum for doglovers, NOT azzholes :)
either! depends greatly if you neuter/spay them. males that aren't can be for a moment unruly sometimes.. and are a little bigger.
male cus females are pussys
Both will be protective, so it really just comes down to what you want.
I own had both male and female shepards, they are both great dogs. I found the females be more protective of the house/property.
female...any mode of female is the best :-D actually dont go my by opinion- i dont know a first item about dogs :-)
I enjoy a male and a female dog.
I find that the female is more loving but sometimes moody (i.e. wont respond when i send for her) and my male dog is very playful but eats method too much!
male obviously
The Male Sheppard is the best. I would get a Jack Russel if it be me.
Depends. Do you want puppies? If no attain a male.
Theres only one way to find out.
FIGHT.
Seriously though i would get a manly puppy, the females are just little bitches.
