Dog Training Classes..would you?

I have a Dal and he is such a spoiled brat which I know its mostly my fought, I have thought about sending him to do some unsophisticated training and was wondering what you guys thought.

I contacted the training kennel today and they have two different programs, 1) you bring your dog spinal column and forth to the classes which last 3 weeks or 2) you can take your dog to them and leave him at hand for the 3 weeks training. They are worked with twice a day. They teach them the unfinished sit, down, sit stay, down stay, leave it, they also teach them that they can't eat anything unless you okay it (including dog food) they instruct them to heel, come...etc! Then you have to go down there on wensday of the concluding week and train with the dog the on saturday you train with the dog and bring him home whether he listens to you like he does the trainers. If you take the your dog posterior and forht to the classes it cost $185.00 and the cost for you leaving your dog is $285.00 which include boarding, food and training for 3 weeks.

It would be easier for me to take my dog and leave him because I live approximately a hour and 15 minutes away. I also wouldnt be able to go down on a wensday due to my boyfriend working afternoon shift and he dont get home untill 4:30pm (so they said that we would work something out for the two days that I have to train near my dog). What would you do, would you send him or train him your self? Is it worth it? If you have any questions that will aid you answer my question better feel free to email me. Thanks in mortgage!!

Oh my dal already knows how to Sit on command, lay down on command and he can shut doors on command. I have had problems tutoring him to stay and leave it.
Well, whether you take and leave him at the site for the three weeks he might not respect you when you get him subsidise. Because they would be the ones doing the training and not you.

If you have problems taking him though and do not want to leave him you can check out some of the online programs that are available. I know that these work as well. They might not work as resourcefully as the one you are speaking of, but they do work.

I honestly do not like choker chains, but that is because I had a womanly Mastiff who had her choker chain get wrapped around my Labs mouth and she get choked to death by it. That is with us sitting here it happened that swift! So I personally do not like chokers.

I think it would benefit you a lot more by taking the course with your dog. You can assure that he is being trained the way you want him trained and it give you a lot more experience working with the commands past you take him home. It is also a great way to develop the bond between you and your dog. =]
Answers:    I would never in a million years even consider leaving my dog to be trained by someone else. That defeat the entire purpose of the training!

And I also question this training being done in 3 weeks. Take a look at ANY other acquiescence training program - they generally run for 8 weeks, with sessions being 1 hour long, once a week.

You also should never, ever sign your dog up for any surrender training until you've watched them and know that you actually agree with the methods used. I'm intensely, very skeptical about this place. I wouldn't go to hand anyplace that has you ship the dog to them for training. Never!

Find somewhere else - even Petsmart would be better than this.
I would be fine next to leaving him there, although there are a few problems. The first one anyone training is a time to bond with your dog. It's when you show them you're in charge and watching them progress really strengthens your relationship. Not to mention it gives you more confidence contained by controlling your dog. The second thing would be, it's not about training the dog--it's in the order of training the owner! It's alright if you come in and they teach you for the 2 days on how to manipulate him and what not, but still, it sounds a tad iffy.

Is there a local trainer that can do in-home sessions? Can you find DVDs on dog training?

There's many more options!
I one-sidedly would take classes with my animal to teach you both skills.
When you are not nearby, you have no idea who or what methods are truly being used.
It is worth the bonding & both earn a level of trust.
The trainer won't be living with the animal-you will be.

Just my preference...
personally i think it is a little better for you to be the one doing the training near the help of the trainers if at all possible. it is a huge commitment, but near a great pay off, and i think you will relish it a lot if you are involved. check with a few other trainers, too, and see whether anyone else has schedules that work better for you. also, you can take the curriculum from each week and work on them until the next class.

3 weeks sounds pretty vigorous. we did one class a week for 9 weeks, with a recommended 45 min twice a day at domestic to let each new lesson sink surrounded by, and phone call support whenever we needed it, for about the same price $180
I estimate you should do the training. It is a good bonding for you and your dog. It also shows the dog who is the pack leader and that he needs to listen to you. Do you really want to be lacking your dog for 3 weeks? I would not.

I took classes at petsmart. They use the clicker training and positive reinforcement. I would recommend it. Maybe you can find another place closer to you.
