Emigrating next to my dog?
I currently live in the UK but I am looking at moving to the USA in 2 years time. I would be relocating to California (or very nearby).
I own an 8 month old Boxer and I would like to know your thoughts on the following.
Would the hot weather cause her discomfort? (She is used to drizzly UK weather).
Are there quarantine laws?
Do you think it would be stressful to move her adjectives that way?
I couldn't bear to leave her but I do want the best for her.
Thanks
I think the weather is pretty good surrounded by northern california. i have a husky and live around San Francisco and he's fine with the weather.. it gets give or take a few 30 - 40 degrees in the winter and around 80 - 90 in the summer
Your dog actually might do better contained by a warmer climate. Boxers don't have much hair and seize pretty chillly in the cold weather. Since they are a brachycephalic breed (pushed in face), they shouldn't be exercised a *lot* during hot weather, but your dog will probably be fine. Just do what everone else does -- keep him within the air conditioning when it's really hot. (Or move to Washington instead where the climate isn't that different from the UK!) :-)
There are no quarantine laws coming this direction. Just be certain you have all your vet records and your dog's shots are current.
Bring your dog next to you. You'll both be happier.
Answers: Would the hot weather raison d`¨ētre her discomfort? (She is used to rainy UK weather). ANswer, No, Your dog will get acclimated to weather just as you will. It may appear uncomfortable at first but both you and your dog will adjust.
Are there quarantine laws? For most of the USA, No, California is slightly different, Check near the airlines and they will tell you the requirements for shipping or traveling with a dog into California. You more than likely obligation some vaccines that are not normally done in the UK.
Do you think it would be stressful to move her adjectives that way? Your dog will experience some stress from the flight but they are generally cared for markedly well. Again the airlines will tell you how to prepare your dog for a long flight.
We brought our dog from the UK w/ no problems. I would think a boxer is pretty all-round to the weather. We don't have quarantine laws but you do need a licence from the vet that your dog is healthy and up to date.
Here's a site w info http://www.foreignborn.com/visas_imm/ent...
It will be stressful on the flight. We gave our dog a very gentle sedative that didn't knock him out but calmed him, and he was a-ok when he came sour the plane.
I don't know about the q.laws going in that direction, but your vet should - or DEFRA? I have an idea that you will probably need a vet health certificate. I appear to remember we didn't need anything more when we took our two out to Canada years ago. What they did need, when we first registered them with a local vet, be a booster for distemper which it was said, was a slightly different strain over there (I reason the vet wasn't trying to extract money from us!). And of course, the rabies shots which could have been given formerly leaving, but that was 'complicated' so we opted for getting that done over in that.
I would contact the airlines re any possible problem with breathing in the Boxer, but it's not like she's a Bulldog so it should be fine. It's a long flight, but they pinch it well. However I'd advise against any form of sedation. Quite often dogs resist sedation until after the event, but whether she's drowsy at the start of the flight, the last thing you need is for her to come out of it mid-flight, and hysterics.
Otherwise I'm sure your Boxer will love being over there and out of the cold and humidity here - go for it, and good luck.
After rats & cockroaches, dog s are the most adaptable animal on the planet.
The US does NOT have a quarantine.
Flying no different than a saloon boat truck tractor or motorcycle ride to a dog-they don't comprehend flight *&* can't see out the window.
I do not know about the quarantine laws. But I do know I lived in california {southern is more moderate weather than northern california} and we have a boxer Shepherd mix who loved it. The dog depending will adapt to the new home vastly well.
collaborate to your vet She will need a pet passport it takes 6 months to get your dog will obligation to be up to date with all injections including rabies and have blood test, also the airlines there are certain months when they will not carry animals
