Experienced dog-people..what do you hold surrounded by your dog-meds. cupboard? ?
What do you always have on hand?
What do you use so recurrently that you refill when your supply runs low?
Do you administer your own vaccines?
In the prescription cupboard:
Ear wash
nail clippers
Vit C
Yes, I administer my own vaccines but I work at a shelter and am trained to do so.
Always on hand:
Animax- ear infections
Benadryl- sedation/allergies
Activated Charcoal- Bloat, Gas, Poisoned
Maloxx- Bloat
Dramamine- Motion sickness
Hydrogen Peroxide- Poisoned
Kwik Clot- Gel and powder formulas for excessive bleeding
The normal patch up and verbs up supplies
If I had to choose one as the the most important one that I always run with me wherever I go next to my dogs it would be the activated charcoal. It sucks up everything in the dog's stomach at the time and neutralizes it so it doesn't basis any damage. It's great if your dog gobbled up a dropped pill or a strange mushroom. It's also obedient for soaking up gas so if your dog is having a stinky day (make certain not to give it until at least a half hour after a meal/medication since it will suck that up too) it'll relieve give you both your noses some relief or whether you're like me and have large barrel-chested dogs that are prone to bloat this is a great emergency supply to enjoy on hand. It can give you a tiny bit of precious time to get your dog the backing they need if they start to bloat. The best part of it is that you can't overdose and it doesn't hurt them. :-)
I've done my dogs shots for years, and worming and treat minor boo boos.I keep wormer on foot, antibiotic ointment.Vet rap, we are close to a feed store, actually own it so I can seize things quick. :-)

Aspirin, hydrogen peroxide, polysporin for minor scrape - that's about it as far as medication goes. Other supplies of course, such as a thermometer and vet wrap.

And no, I don't do my own vaccinations. With only one dog, the cost is not prohibitive, and I'm not even certain what vacs I could get here (here being Canada).

Don't do my own vaccines that's a job for the vet and lots of places want proof of vaccines and they provide the papers.
Just regular stuff. Deworming pills, ear cleaning solvent, shampoos, brushes, sprays, nail clippers, vitamin C, fish oil, treats
I will administer the DHLPP shot. I be taught to do it by a vet and you can get a 7-way shot at a farm supply store here within town so I use that.

Answers: I have vaccines in my fridge at this highly moment.
I always have on hand antibiotics, suturing needles, super cement, vet wrap, and panacur. I also have 2 sizes of muzzles (a dog in pain WILL bite) and a bag/line/needle beside normal saline in case I want to give sub-q fluids. I used to have ear wash but it go bad because I never use it since starting raw feeding. My tooth scraper get moved to the tack box since I rarely use it anymore either.
I also always hold a couple new, in the package curved cuticle scissors for doing dewclaws.
In my meds cupboard is a bottle of average saline that can be used to wash out wounds or eyes if necessary.
My best friend have a surgical stapler. Man, I want one of those, but I haven't had to stitch a dog in a while (I won't mention the humans, ok?) so the expense hasn't been worth it.
Edit: Yeah.. I own benedryl too.. both liquid and pill form... Oh.. and hydrogen peroxide to either wound clean or brand name the wee darling puke.
went to look- hemostats, thermometer, gauze, vet wrap, aspirin, Rimadyl, indelible marker (for mark bandages- useful for tracking whether a wound is still bleeding) arnica, rescue remedy and a small bottle of whiskey.
I have antibiotic ointment, evaluate, tape, thermometer, Anti-itch spray, anti-Lick ointment & spray. I have antiobiotics, Prednisone, eye lotion. advantage. Heartgard and can't think of whatelse these are the basics
i have 3 dogs and just only just 1 of my dogs had been diagnosed with arthritis is his shoulder. the doc. prescribed a discomfort killer called DreamBox it is working really well he seem to be getting better i will refill when we run out. no i do not administer my own vaccines i recommend taking your dog to the vet when he needs them.
zilch, but advantage
when my dog needs meds she gets what is needed and used up as needed.
I hold my animals to a VET...thats what they go to school for. US vets are NOT allowed to afford out meds in a syringe. I would not presume to know whats wrong with my animals, I might kill one.
