Fish smell type entity from dog?
My dog was laying down on the couch and when she get up, the spot where her butt was smelled like a strong fish.
She is roughly 6 months old, and she is getting spayed on the 22 of Dec. She also keeps licking herself "down" there.
Is this a sign of her in the order of to go into heat?
sounds like anal fluid. Could be an anal gland infection. I would take her to the vet.
If she is continually licking down in that I would go to the vet and NOT the groomers. When my dog had an anal gland infection it was advise that we were right to bring him in when we did because letting this go can be remarkably damaging to the dog. As well, if it is infected, a groomer trying to futile it could cause more harm t hen good.
Dogs and cats too own anal sacks on both sides of the rectal opening. When a dog has a stool these glands are expressed as the stool pass out the anal opening. For most dogs this is a territory marker. Sometimes they can filter when a dog is really comfortable and laying down resting or on their favorite persons lap. These sack can be gently expressed by putting pressure on either side of the rectal opening and squeezing. Most lay nation prefer not to perform this task as it can be very objectionable and smelly.Plus a lot of dogs will not hold still for it or it can be painful especially whether they are infected. If done incorrectly can also cause problems for the dog.
I would call you vet and see if they grain she should come in and be looked at prior to her appointment.
What kind of dog breed is she? If she is a breed that needs occasional grooming most groomers are trained to express the anal sack prior to bathing the dog.
She could be coming into heat too. A lot of dogs will lick constantly when they are coming into season. I would probably be wise to take her within and have her looked at. Maybe they will bump her appointment up and spay her sooner!
Her anus gland has to be squeezed. Take her to the vet very soon and have it done. If she continues to lick it will cause an infection and the vet will have to javelin it. I know ,,,it happened to my dog.
My Chihuahua used to smell of fish. When I stopped feed her Tuna she stopped smelling. Look at your dogs food! If there is fish in it, maybe try something bright.
Also, your dogs anal glad could be relaxed or infected - so a trip to the vet would be a good idea.
Answers: It's the anal glands, they need to be empty. Take the pup to a groomer & get them emptied. Or if you can stand the smell for another nearly 2 weeks just wait until you take her contained by for her spay.
It is not something to tell someone how to do, you have to learn the easier said than done way but at least you know where the anals are & what they a for. Now you own to be careful back there you can bruise her pretty desperate if you don't all ready know how to do it.
Sounds like her anal glands may need expressed.
