For those who work/volunteer at shelters...?
Do you see a rise in pets being brought in after Christmas because parents other got their children dogs as presents because "they wanted one"?
Oh yes... but that isn't always the shield.
Yes, very much. Usually its around 3-4 months after Christmas that we really start getting puppies under 6 months within. The most common excuse it "Its a monster! It chews on everything!". We also get a big increase in kittens near the most common exuse being "it scratches approaching crazy!". And then within about a 1-2 months after Easter we receive a huge increase in Ducklings, Chicks, and Rabbits. We even recieved a lamb once!
I think its rather silly that they do this. If they decide that their family is ready for a dog and pass someone a dog as a present. Then the least they could do is be responsible for it!
Answers: Yes.
Always.
Usually in Late January/February.
Live animals do not create good "presents"
yeah especially around feb-april. at hand are a lot of puppies who end up there because relatives realize that it actually requires work. it's really terrible. they should think these things through
yes!! my god yes!! especially a little after untried years, when they realize that the whole omg perfect little puppy doesnt work out. i always lug food during the holidays and i save my christmas money to buy extra food for the waves of pups that come surrounded by. its really sad. in cages where on earth there are supposed to be 2-3 dogs there are up to 5+ small dogs. not to mention the runs outside. im guessing this year will be the worst however, what with all the designer dog crap going on.
Yes. Statistically, this is when we get the greatest number of dogs/cats
Nope. Actually not. Christmas puppies and birthday puppies give the impression of being to be lasting gifts, and just given at that time, to avoid having to spend money on the dog and other presents too.
Easter Bunnies are another story, surrounded by 6 months they're often given up.
You better believe it. Some stupid people never learn.
Yes. Always. My shelter might not even adopt out this christmas because they other get so many afterwords. Good idea contained by my opinion
