Good/Bad Way to Introduce Dogs? TRY 2?
Sorry. Let me re explain.
The Family I am living with own a dog and I bought a dog when I moved in. There Mother of the family have a diein father who has a dog, and we a takin care of the dog till he gets better.
They took the dog to the sliding chalice door which goes into the back yard. (so the other 2 dogs contained by the back yard can see) They opened the door and my dog run in.
(he always runs inside) There is where he 'attacked' grandfathers dog. ( my dog get very excited when meeting other dogs.)
( So what I think happen was my dog ran over to the other dog, (and the other dog) got startled and barked/bit at my dog, ( I ONLY HERD BARKING FROM THE NEW DOG.) my dog being bigger probably tried to bite back. NOT SURE BECAUSE I WAS NOT THERE AND THEY DIDNT TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED.)
I feel this isn't the DOGS failure. But the PEOPLE who introduce them in the dark/in the back yard!
What do you have a sneaking suspicion that?
100% Stupid human tricks. Dogs are instinctively protective of their food source. People must understand this and stroke accordingly.
Ya. People's fault. The polite way to introduce dogs is around noon, or at least when its still pale out, away from a place that might make them territorial. In the dark within one of the dog's territory? that is really dumb.
Answers: Stupid humans. I intro new dogs OFF the property if possible. I take them for a hoof it together. I do not put them face to face at first if any is at all aggressive. I don't allow any aggressive behavior and when both are calm I will let them way of walking closer and when they are walking next to each other and acting fine, THEN i let them sniff respectively other.
By letting dogs be more gradual and not right in each others' faces I've be able to introduce some very aggressive dogs and get them to be ok beside my dogs. But you have to watch body language and stop a row before it starts.
I was able to retrain my friend's 10yr. matured Siberian that would attack and try to kill other dogs to accept my 14yr. old Whippet masculine. They became good friends and my dog used the "killer" Sibe as a pillow on a long car trip. The Sibe still have to be monitored with strange dogs, but was much better with strict meekness training and a prong collar and me being a better trainer than her owner.
Cesar Millan's show helped me learn how to introduce dogs within better ways. Never too old to learn :)
I agree with you. This is the fault of the general public!
