How big do maltese puppies normally take when they grown-up?
from the akc standard:
Size
Weight lower than 7 pounds, with from 4 to 6 pounds preferred
The maltese is a small breed and they generally do not achieve very large. The maltese is considered a lap dog.
They are small puppies :)
They can be 7 to 13 pounds, approximately.
Answers: Just as in all small breeds, they were bred down within size from larger ancestors so they vary in size. A well bred Maltese that meet the breed standards should be between 4 and 7 pounds, but there are plenty of "breeders" that breed much larger than that so beware if you want a tiny dog.
A good process to tell the size at maturity is to take a food amount with a bowl on top to weigh the puppy (only about 12 bucks at Walmart). At 8 weeks you triple the weight for a guesstimate. At 12 weeks you double the bulk. Good breeders won't let a small dog leave until a minimum of 10 weeks.
6 1/2 to 9 pounds.
