How do I bring my dog to stop chasing his tail?

My family thinks the reason that he is chasing his tail is because when we get him, he was crated his entire beginning of his life. he be shipped from Hungary. When we brought him home he was afraid to go on the grass. When he chases his tail, he slobbers everywhere! He foams at his mouth and get spit everywhere!! we have tried everything! Please help!! he can get so annoying!
I think you should clutch him when he does it, and then hold him until he settles down, then give him a treat right absent if he listens. I have a mutt, and hold never had this problem, she just hates things bigger than her, and growls when I try to pick her up.
Roperchi, what a horrible solution, a shock collar, the lazy man's road out. The dog is bored and probably not getting enough attention. Please contact a professional trainer in your area. Don't know where on earth you live, but WHY would you have a dog shipped from Hungary, why not get a local dog.

It's obcessive behavior and should NOT be allowed.
its that he is bored and also their curiosity
Give him a lot of exercise - play fetch, run or walk beside him, anything to keep him active. When you are not around, give him a Kong toy - a not easy rubber pyramid that you can put a little peanut butter in.

A dog that is tired or otherwise busy in something of interest will be much less to find their own entertainment.
Every time he does it you should helpfully scold him and give him a little stroke on the nose. Then he might think: hmm, whenever I do that my beloved humans get silly at me, I better not do that anymore.
Well, dogs LOVE chasing near tail! my three dogs chase it 24-7!O_O...Well, dogs have a thing for chasing there tail...you could receive someone to train him to stop... but all dogs do it for fun... maybe you should play with him more. :)
Needs more exercise. Tired dogs have no behavioral problems.
Well a friend of mine dogs did that it is a simple stage and usual the dog passes on it all you can do is train it or ask a local vet for advice.
Answers:    Some dogs really similar to their tails. It's a built-in toy!

Otherwise, are you giving him enough play time? Dogs need walk and time to romp around off-leash, either at a dog park or in a fenced backyard. It kinda sounds like the dog is really, really bored.

Rolled up reporters, water, and yelling won't help. It will simply teach the dog to cower when you yell, tear up the Fourth Estate when you are out of the house, and make it tough for whoever bathes him.
As long as he is not chewing his tail it is ok, it is a team game to him.
Give him more excersice. If this still doesnt help gain a shock collar and zap him every time he chases his tail. I have a cow dog that chases his tail everytime we start the tractor, truck, 4-Wheeler, or if you make a kiskkkkiskk racket. its agitating.

When dogs get bored they make up games. Another good model is to work on obediance, agility and such when he startes doing this.

hope i helped.
Maybe give him something else to chase?
You've already indicated that the vet say he has OCD. Perhaps the vet will also have a suggestion on how to get him to stop.
I would cut it off, dogs unanimously dont feel any pain.
