How do you discourage a dog from ingestion out of the cats' litter box?

Move the litter box to somewhere the cats can with the sole purpose get in. Or,

Make a loud noise whenever you see it poking his trunk around the litter box, then say "NO!"
put the litter box in a place the dog can't get to it. dogs eat the fecal business of their co-inhabitants. it's nature's way of finding out who is in their terrritory.
give the dog a higher nutrition diet and maintain the littler box clean so the dog has nothing to smell
1. training

2. keeping the litter box somewhere that the dog cannot get to, and maybe surrounded by some kind of enclosed box or door or something like that.
I have my cat litter box tucked bad to side of my toilet and pushed as far back as it can go and the cat litter pail contained by front of it. My dogs are small, so can't get to it.
Put the litter box someplace the dog can't get to it.

That's the single thing that works.
Answers:    When I still lived with my parents and had both a cat and a dog in impossible to tell apart house, my dog was ALWAYS stealing "snacks" out of the box- GROSS.

You can try what we came up with. What we did be purchase a big rubbermaid storage container with a lid. We filled the bottom of it with litter and snapped the lid on, and next cut a reasonably sized hole in the top for the cat to draw from in and out of. My cat loved this as it was big and private, and the dog couldn't reach his beloved "treats," so it be a win-win situation.

Good luck!
Duh, put it where on earth they can't get to it.
