How recurrently should I groom my mini schnauzers?
I have two and with the cost of grooming now, I am wondering how long I can budge between grooms without them getting matted? They are brushed everyday. Right now I am getting them done every 6 weeks at 100.00 a go.
The grooming that Schnauzers receive is for aesthetic reasons and whether you can't afford it, there is no reason to follow that routine. Keep their hair trimmed out of their eyes, go for a dip as needed and brush *daily* to ensure no matting occurs.
Well for dog breed approaching miniature schnauzers, the average cosmetic grooming should be done every 4 to 6 weeks. In order not to feel the pinch, instead of sending your two dogs at one go, may I propose you to take turn to send them to the groomer. Say..this month you send your dog A for grooming consequently the following month you send your dog B. Brushing your dog daily and cleaning their ears and eyes regularly is important. Make certain you get the right brush or comb in order not to sprain your dog's hair coat. To check if you have the right brush or comb, please run to www.info-on-dogs.com for reference. At least you are a responsible person to brush your dogs every year while some others may not, keep up your good work!!
Answers: Most schnauzers can be in motion 6-8 weeks between grooms, especially if you are doing a good career of brushing. As a 40 year veteran in the grooming industry, I can tell you that the vast majority of relations who brush their own dogs do not do it properly! There's a big difference between brushing thoroughly and what we call "top brushing." Your dog's coat must be brushed all the way down to the skin, where on earth most matts begin to form. If not, the most likely result is having to enjoy the dog shaved or having to pay additional charges for dematting. Ask your groomer to assist you with your technique and for advice in choosing the right tools. Most are happy to help you keep your dog surrounded by good condition since it make our job easier!
That depends on how well you are brushing them.
If you are doing it correctly, they shouldn't get matted at all, within which case the time between haircuts is simply a matter of how shaggy you want them to return with.
Most groomers will be happy to show you how to brush correctly.
Wow - call around, I simply used to pay 18 bucks, and I got a very nice career done (every 2-3 months, yeah, they got a little bushy)
if they are brushed every daytime, then get a matt splitter, you should be fine. Just be sure to comb them surrounded by the "arm pits" and matts wont be nearly as much of a problem.
