How to pick the dog for you?
I usually consent to them pick me. Dogs are usually right about these things. If you're going to adopt a dog at a shelter, look for the one who tries to make a nouns with you. Same way if you're picking a puppy out of a litter. Of course, you also want to find a dog that suits your lifestyle, but most dogs (and people) can adjust if the chemistry is there.
Decide on a size and energy level that is right for you and for the type of domestic you live in. Look over information at http://www.akc.org/breeds/complete_breed... about the types of breeds (look on the left where on earth you can see "breeds by group" to help sort them) to try to find a few breeds that have the qualities you are looking for. The AKC pattern site will have recommendations that, in calculation to size and energy level, say things approaching "good for kids" or "good guard dog", etc. and links to clubs for that breed that will have even more information.
Then travel to a shelter, and try to find a dog that fits the qualities you settled on. With mixed breeds it's harder to predict how they'll behave, but you'll know that a beagle-mix has some of the qualities of a beagle, so the AKC info should backing somewhat. Most of all, spend some time with the dogs in the shelter freshly playing with them to see what they are like, and pick the one you love.
i bought a book on different breeds which explains where best suited, nature etc,was reasonably surprised really, did you know a great dane is more suited for a flat than a jack russel, danes cant be walked much cos their legs are thin in comparison to their bodies and don't really rear around much, where jack Russell's need lots of room an exercise,
Take your lifestyle into consideration.
Get an active working dog whether you yourself are active and will be around to exercise the dog.
Get a smaller calmer lap dog whether you wont have as much time for exercise.
Be sure you'll have time for adjectives the responsibilities that come with a dog.
Also think about the citizens the dog will be around.
Adults? Small children? etc.
:D
what do you mean? i just went to the shelter and looked at the dogs and petted them and after found the one.
You have to look at the traits of the dog and what you WANT surrounded by a dog.
For instance, if you want a protector, I wouldn't go with a toy poodle.
If you want a knees dog, I wouldn't go with a German Shepherd.
Personally, I went beside the Shepherd.
I didn't! My brother bought domestic a Golden Lab. and I help look after it!
Just look for a breed you like .. size .. intellagance ..
This one really worked for me, http://dogtime.com/find-dog. You're just a few steps away in finding the right one for you. Good luck to you!
