I am getting a shih tzu? Questions?
Ok well i am getting a shih tzu hopefully for christmas i am in love with them and my best friend have one so i know how they act!! can you just give me additional heads up and some names. thanks. and it will be a girl.

Well, names usually come after you find to know the animal a little bit. But they can be hyper. Mine is calm when I am calm but when I want to play he is adjectives about it. This comes with some training but it's not hard to do. You do call for to watch because shih tzus are prone to having ear problems, usually yeast because of the coat in their ears. But this is easily taken care of by the proper cleaning of them, simply ask your vet. I like to use a cleaning solution from the vet and a thing called otomax, it is a medication that soothes their ears and helps the yeast problem. Also, it is always good to remind you groomer you want them to pluck the coat out of their ears, it grows long and this helps the yeast have a good growing ground. Hope this help :)

Be prepared for a lot of maintenance though. The coat of a shih tzu is a lot of work.. Cute as they are they aren't actual clever...
Answers: I hold 5 shih-tzu's. They are sweet and adorable. They know exactly what they are doing if they do something wrong , they look up at you with their big eyes and expect that to unfreeze your heart, don't let them fool you :) . If you are planing on keeping the long hair and topknot carry a pin brush (for regular brushing ), a comb, and a slicker (only for if a mat gets in the coat and the pin brush will not bring it out, the slicker is to harsh on the coat for regular brushing). At least brush and comb once a week. Yes they may eat their own poop :), as to why im not certain but some just do don't be alarmed, just startle them if you see them intake it and say no , or you can try some thing like forbid (a white powder you would mix beside can food). Crate training is easiest for me. Mine love to chew on things, I get large rawhide bones because the small ones that get flimsy startle me , the shih-tzu gets it soft and if they break it off once it get small they try to swallow it whole.
