I enjoy two Huskies from Alaska?

My cousin passed away in an accident 3 weeks ago and they be going to put his dogs down. He had 8 Siberians in which were trained to verbs sleds for races and competition. I do not know why other competitors did not want all of the dogs. I took the last two males and I live contained by the New England area. These dogs are not happy, they are hyper as can be and want nothing to do next to me. I know they must miss their owner and other companions. Do you think they will adapt or do I need to provide them to someone back up there that does sledding. They are both 2 years old (brothers). I can't hold them if they will not be happy.
I would definetley find a home for them within alaska, they sound sad that they are out of their environment their used too. Thats a nice thing to do for your cousin , which by the path, im sorry for your loss, but you cant take that kind of a challenge on.
It would worry me that you took the unchosen dogs that be passed over by skilled handlers. If you do not know much about Huskies you are NOT in a for a treat. Also I don't know much around the socialization that sled dogs receive up north but they may never make good pets. They are used to doing hard work and their joie de vivre wil always seem endless most expected. I would try to find them a home up where they were doing what they know.
Answers:    You don't need to convey them to Alaska. There are mushers in New England who might be interested in your dogs. Two local sled dog clubs are the Downeast Sled Dog Club in Maine, trellis site desdc.org. The other is the New England Sled Dog Club, based in Lyme, NH, nesdc.org. There is also the New hampshire Mushers Association and Yankee Siberian Husky Club. All of them have net sites with open forums. If you tell them your situation the member will help you out. Don't give up on them too quick. They enjoy been through some major instability and don't know what is happening. You hold not even had them for a week so they are still adjusting.
yeah that is to say true.
they could want a job or activity of some kind, which within husky world
of course indicates sledding :) but then u never know if they simply want playtime, rather.
u gotta work with them.
if someone up in that really does want a dog for sledding, and they really do have a place besides the shelter to go, then yes specifically take them, cuz dog jobs should be encouraged. not ample dogs that need jobs in the world are "employed" and whether the dogs arent happy where they are, then it is a honest idea to see who can candidate for an owner for them.
They are not happy without doing any work- hand over them a job- even as simple as gaurding the house!! And huskies need lots of exercise they are high-energy dogs- that's part of the reason they are hyper.
True Siberian sled dogs typically don't take home the transition into the world of "just a pet" very easily...they have and job now they have zilch, and their pack is gone...try to get them to someone that can use them.
doesn't event how old the dog is
if you have proper training the dog will modify to you
if it's an old dog it may take longer but it's still possible
show them that you love and diligence for them
they will eventually think that your their owner
just have self-control
but once you decide you will keep these dogs I hope you are committed to them for a life time :]
They will convert. Give them a lot of attention and exercise. Toys such as Kongs. They are probably confused.
