Is it middle-of-the-road for a puppy to be afraid of a bark dog up close?
I took my 2 and a half month old puppy out for a walk for the first time. We pace past a house with a dog. When the dog barks at her she cowered contained by fear and eager to get absent. Is it a normal puppy fear? Will she grow out of it?
Yes, Most small animals are afraid of those bigger than them. That would be like a total stranger screaming their organizer off at you. It would most likely scare you too LOL Anyway, as he grows and get more confident with himself and his surroundings (and you too), he should grow out of it. If he still exhibits the same behavior by the time he's two (and obviously if you can afford it), you may consider taking him to a behaviorist.
Yes, it is extremely everyday. The barking dog was probably being aggressive, judge from what you have said. It would be like a young three year old-fashioned child being yelled at by the old man subsequent door. I know I was very scared of our own token 'cranky antiquated man'. Don't worry that it is a problem, though. Your dog is also still very young and have not been socialised enough yet. She will probably not cower so much (or perchance at all) as she gets older and gains confidence and, most importantly, as she grows. As she is so childlike and small, she feels very vulnerable, and she is awfully vulnerable. Her reaction was probably the healthiest one to enjoy because it indicates that she has a will to live, or at least the sense not to fight near older far more vicious dogs. :) Hope this helps you feel more confident roughly your dogs future walks! Oh! Almost forgot to add, as you budge past the house on your walks, when the other dog barks, do not perform as though there is anything amiss. Act completely normal and confident and your puppy will take the front from you. Encourage her with kind words and pats on your tramp too. It will relax her and she will begin really looking forward to them. Much too much to be scared! :)
Hell yeah!!
Its a damn puppy!
Its like me asking you as a grown person if you would be anxious if you woke up in the middle of the night and hear burglars!
Adrenaline rush of fear ey?
It is absolutely normal for a puppy to be submissive to an elder (especially aggressive) dog. She will grow out of it somewhat unless she is the submissive type.
Answers: Pretty normal. She'll grow out of it next to your help. Walk by that house often, pretend there's nothing going on, don't speed up, don't slow down, don't clutch the leash tighter or verbs the puppy closer to you, talk quietly to the puppy so she knows you're relaxed almost it(you are, aren't you? If not then act that way beside body and voice), and the puppy will soon also act like there's nothing to verbs about. Once you're past the barking dog and the puppy acted very well, keep talking and praise the puppy for anyone SUCH a GOOD DOG! Much better than that silly dog back there.
That is a totally normal puppy fear. She'll probably grow out of it as she socializes more near dogs. Good luck raising your puppy!!
