Is near any Doggie diets?
I have a lab whom is getting old. ( she is 6 & my baby). she really does not eat abundantly...( about 1 & a half to 2 cups per day) yet she is 10 pounds overweight. she is supposed to be 70 pounds , according to the doctor, but weigh about 80. & her vet just said to cut back her food.. & do the excersise.. however.. she wont progress for a walk anymore cause her arthritis hurts her.. but jumps when she get to go bye bye in the car.). ( it get her excited.. bless her).. she started out being my dog.. but when i married my husband.. she became "daddy's girl.. ( her choice).. so he takes her everywhere he can minus work.. I endow with her k9 aspirin.. ( yes for dogs).. but i need to know since she wont walk anywhere... & hates one away from daddy... what can we do or give her for her weight? the vet didnt seem to be to take my suggestion ( I asked to have her checked for a thyroid problem or doggie dieabetes..) since she really does not eat profusely but gaines lots.. what can i do? I do NOT free feed her. she gets fed on diary & then goes out to the yard, to do her trade... But getting Her to play? not gonna happen unless daddy is around.. & even then she still refuses to chase after a globe anymore.. ( cant blame her she hurts) but she will just hang around & be content & happy next to her"daddy" sitting on the porch... even he cant get her to go for walks.. but.. again... her arthritis have gotten bad... ( she used to play.. about a little smaller number then a year ago) But it just hurts her now & we craft her as happy as we can to make up for it all.. she is merry... she shows it... Poor girl...( i feel bad for her during the flair ups of the arthritis) she is well care for.. & when she is in the mood she does go for walks. only just not far.. ( we live in a mobile home park) & the managers abhorrence her or other dogs anywhere but their own yard... ( the yard is big enough.. but...) she in recent times wont take advantage of it... I had her since she be a puppy.. & my husband became part of our family since she be 9 months old. so we love her... & the doctor agrees that we dont need to put her down... yet.. so... what else can i do?? I know this is long.. sorry... i of late really ( we just really love her. she has a pillow bed... Next to ours... lol... ok thanks guys... so im asking.. what can i do to relieve her diet? or is it a thyroid thing?
On things like 1800petmeds the have things close to doggie ibporfin and other things to help with arthritis pain and swelling contained by dogs. A way to help her exercise deepending on where you live whip her swimming. If you live in a cold area maybe when she rolls on her vertebrae for a tummy rub work her legs with doggie massage to help near the arthriris pain and to also turn the puppy fat (just like little one fat in my mind) into muscle. I can understand the long message i love my dog too. I spoil him rotten ;).
Hmmm. Ask about J/D Prescription Diet. (expensive)Maybe Adequan injections?? Your dog iz lucky to hold you taking care of her!
Since when is 6 old for a dog?? Only since people started feeding processed 'crap within a bag' I would bet.
Change your dogs diet to one based around raw meaty bones and you will soon find that not only will your dog be closer to her just the thing weight, her coat will be softer, her teeth cleaner and her arthritis will improve. Your dog will also get more delight from her meals as she will need to work for her dinner rather than hoovering up biscuits. Make certain you feed plenty of cartilage for the natural glucosimine and some fish body oil (for omega 3) may abet with the arthritis too.
If she should be about 70 lbs then nurture her between 2 and 3% of that per day. I would start on the 3% and then slowly reduce the amount until she is at her just what the doctor ordered weight. Then just adjust the amount you feed as prerequisite. So start feeding her about 2 lbs of chicken pieces (halves or quarters) per day - after a few weeks start accumulation in other meats such as pork, whole fish, beef or turkey. Aim to be feed (over a week or two) 'about' 2/3 meat and the remaining third a combination of meaty bones and organs. Make sure you feed liver but not more than about 5% of the total diet.
** cooked proteins hold a totally different chemical structure than raw. A dog may be intolerant to a processed food containing cooked meats (and heaps of other additives) but have no issues beside the raw food.
You could evolution her diet to a low fat food. As far as her arthritis has the vet prescribed Rimadyl for pain and Dasquin for reciprocated lubrication?
I have several dogs on it. One is a 9 year old lab. It helps. Ask your vet. And perfect luck!
Answers: obviously the problem (like in a human) is a highly sedentary lifestyle which isn't her fault for various reasons. whether you cut back on her food, the effects would be the same as in a personality i.e. lower energy, and possibly malnutrition which will only hurt her vigour. if she's getting on, let her eat what she wishes, and play with her as much as possible, then if time becomes very painful for her, enjoy her put down. there's no point starving an old dog, it's just cruel and wouldn't be much backing.
DO not cut out food groups or put her own 'low fat food', as the effects will not be positive.
good luck
