Looking for a correct dog food?
I am looking for a good dog food. I had been feed my dog Pedigree for a while, but then became aware that it had harmful preservatives in it. I bought some Purina ONE after looking through the ingredients. It is a little better, but I wouldn't say by much. I want my dog to be as full-bodied as she can be, but I am also in college so I can't spend $40+ on a single bag of dog food. I am asking on a good vigorous brand, preferably one that isn't insanely expensive. But am opened to anything, shes important :)
We use Merrick at our house. You can check out this link:http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_...

Answers: Innova, Canidae, Wellness, and Solid Gold are some good foods. Chicken soup (the dog food) is correct too.
The thing with higher aspect foods is that while the initial sticker price might make you go 0_0 it equals out. Since the food is so digestable you'll feed smaller amount, sometimes by as much as half. This is because the dog gets so much more out of what it eats.
You could also try a organic diet. These diets don't have to be expensive, you just have to memorize how to shop for deals and be resourceful. I feed a 90 pound, and a 50 pound dog raw for around $90 a month, that's a lofty estimate. http://www.rawfed.com
This may make you feel more assured about the expense of buying a apposite quality food vs a low quality food:

Another option is a coarse diet, which is even cheaper. www.bigdogsporch.com can help you with raw feed if you want to learn about it. It is best to do your research since starting it.
And just so you dont feel alone, I used to feed pedigree and switched to purina one. As you said, they are both crap, but base on my dog, she was a new dog when on the purina one because of how much better it is than pedigree. She had matching reaction when going from purina to innova, then to raw feed.
Chicken soup is the new canidae(best price for quality) in my opinion.
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul is a good, AFFORDABLE brand.
Forget Petco and other pet stores. They use puppy mills in one form or another. Find a local pet rescue or the local animal shelter. Give a good dog a moment chance. Many animals in shelters and rescues are good, loving animals, but they have owners that could not care for them, want them after the "new" wore off or abused them. We have 4 rescued dogs and one from a registered breeder. The rescued are more loving because they know what it is resembling to be neglected and will go out of their way to please you.

Look at the Diamond naturals chain, they are good but less expensive.
Purina and Pedigree okay you went from Crap to Garbage with that switch.
you'll find that the higher the characteristic the higher the cost. Look into Blue Buffalo, it's much better than Pedigree and Purina but not that expensive. I found that Taste Of the Wild that you get only at specialty stores is in actuality $44 for a large 30lb bag, it's also a 6 star rated food next to 100% NO Grains. It's much cheaper than a slightly lower rated brand of food such as Pinnacle or Avoderm so to me it's worth it. Just be wary of dog food that contains Fish, some manufacturers don't use Ethoxyquin free fish and that's a concern. [Ethoxyquin is a preservative used within fish that has been banned contained by human foods due to the fact it's a carcinogen].
My suggestion is look for a 4 star rated food and above on the following website and then price it from in attendance.
GL
be paid sure you go to petco.
I twig how you feel! I have two dogs right now and used to enjoy a puppy that died of cancer last summer. My first puppy (that died) we made her food. We bought chicken tenders and rice and vegtables and then I cooked it adjectives together. That was her food! I found out that, that is the healthiest dog food out there but. it take a lot of effort and time which I dont have and probably a college student resembling yourself. Anyways, when my puppy died and I got two more I stopped making the food. Instead I am right now using Buffalo Blue. This is an amazing dog food and extremely healthy! It give your dog a beautiful healthy coat and healthy teeth. I love it because it is inexpensive as in good health! I really do recomend it!
Hope that helps!
