My dog is shocking (no literally).?
EVERYONE. She is a service dog and we just recently moved to colorado springs, I've never had this issue formerly. Its becoming to the point where both of us flinch when we touch and this is a VERY bad item, I do not want to train my dog not to touch me, especially because she is a psychological service dog. I've tried rubbing her down with a dryer sheet (which she hated, btw), combing her additional hair (this makes it worse) and even grounding myself. Im cracking up asking this question but to be honest its REALLY not that funny. We will be getting a dehumidifier soon, so hopefully that help but in the mean time i NEED to be able to touch my dog! (and I know its not me because i touch metal earlier hand and i still shock her)
Try rubbing your hands with some foot cream and see if that helps. The dehumidifier should also help alot next to the static electricity. Rubber soled shoes may also help too.
As long as your certain it is the dog and not you.you need to find someway to discharge the dog. Like having a wire come bad the dog to touch the ground, not very practical though!
I would try touching the dog very quickly beside the flat part of your hand, that way whether there is a shock it is spread out across your palm and not focused on the fingers.
Answers: That was happening to me beside one of my dogs, especially when either of us was touching synthetic matter. I think the problem is with me. I have to wear rubber gloves when vacuuming or I keep hold of getting zapped. If anyone else uses the vacuum cleaner they don't get zapped so it's not the vacuum cleaner.
Try wearing only clothing made of natural cloth and see if that helps. There some anti static sprays you can buy to lightly spray your dog.
I agree, it isn't funny.
you need a HUMIDIFIER, not a de-humidifier
Cool mist humidifiers are available at most cuff stores, and are not expensive.
Getting rid of any synthetic carpets in your home will also be in motion a long way towards getting rid of the static your dog is building up.
hope this helps!
i think the heavens is too dry,you need a humidifier.don't buy a dehumidifier,it will get the "zapping" worse.
Sounds resembling your home does need the humidity raised. You involve a humidifier for that (not dehumidifier-that removes water). You should have 40-50% humidity.
Anyway, you might also try a cool air/water vaporizer.
You can spray your clothes and rugs with static guard, it help a little. You need much more humidity in your house. Both of my guys own it and I have enough electricity to light up a small town.
Maybe there is dog-friendly hair cream? Like a conditioner made for dogs? My cats enjoy the same problem in the winter...they think we're shocking them intentional. But they lick themselves so any hair treatments are out of the question...
You don't want to take the humidity out the air, you want to affix it.
I live in MN, we have dry winters, and humid summers. At my old charge I worked with highly static sensitive parts. The slighest bit of static and you'd lose a $300 part.
Summer months when it be humid were great, very few death by static parts. Winter months when it be dry, OMG. There were weeks we'd go through 1000's and 1000's of dollars worth of parts.
move to Florida where it's not so cold and smaller number static in the air.
