My dog requirements to know some tricks! He's a short time ago not getting it?

I have a small dog mix of chihuahua and dachshund. He's a year old and only know "High Five" and basic commands. I'm trying to teach him other cute tricks that seem like most dogs know like roll over and shake. Currently, I have him sit, I say aloud "shake" and lift his paw, then say honourable boy and give him a treat. He just doesn't get it. I do it over and over and over again. Sometimes for up to 30 minutes or so. What am I doing wrong? Also - for rollover he doesn't own a clue. Any tips? Add any other cute tricks I can teach him! Thanks!
I never taught my dog the "roll and shake" because, personally, I didn't approaching it. I did, however, teach him how to close the door. Really simple: Treats in paw, walk him to an open door. Make sure here is enough room for him to stand on his hind legs. Then tap the door, snap your fingers, and show him how the door closes. Then, open it and preserve your hand up there until he starts to push on it. Treat as needed.
dogs retention span is more or less 5 minutes, so the 30 minutes you are spending on training are a waste of 25 minutes. Try cutting down the training time from 30 minutes to 5 and add to the amount of sessions, resembling one 5 minute training session every 2 hours or so. This will help him retain and you will have his attention to the training. Add some play time after each training session so he know that after he has to pay attention to you, he gets rewarded next to some free play time with you too.
Answers:    I enjoy trick training aswell, my dog is quite consummate in what he can do ... and is the entertainment for the local kids!

Pick up a clicker, its a small box with a button on it. When you push the button, it makes a clicking nouns. Use this to tell your dog when he's doing something right, or is on the right track. Be sure to let him know, that respectively time the clicker clicks, he gets a treat!
For example, start with something he already knows, such as the high-ranking five trick. When he performs the trick, click the clicker, and give him a treat. He'll soon catch on.

As for your "shake" trick ... put something additional yummy in your hand, in the outset, and close it in your fist. Make sure your dog knows its near. If you wait long enough, he'll get frustrated ... and try and paw at your foot! When his paw touches your hand, click your clicker, and give him whatever is surrounded by your fist. He'll soon learn that touching your hand will earn him the treat ... add surrounded by the "shake" command, and there you go! As the dog gets more familiarized, you can use regular treats again.

Another technique, use your dog's hunger to your advantage! If you have your dog on a feed schedual (he doesnt have access to food all the time) then try and do some training BEFORE your schedualed feed time ... say if the normal time is 6:00, try at 5:30. He'll hold a greater forcus, because he's hungry and wants the food more. I reccomend this for the more complicated tricks.

Some other cute tricks are :
Say your Prayers

Are you Scared? (dog can either hide beneath something .. .say a blanket, or he can lift his paws over his eyes)

Bang, Bang, Bang! - an expert trick ... on the first "bang" your dog will flabby, the second he will crawl, and the third he will finally play dead.

Sit Up Pretty - when he sits on his hind paws solitary

Dance - you can try this with your dog ... mine never caught on. It involves him "dancing" while standing on back paws merely.

Then there are your useful tricks, such as :
Find the Remote (find my keys, find my phone ... exetra)

Get me a hose down bottle - this one impresses the company. The dog goes to the fridge, opens the door, grab a water bottle, closes the door, and brings it to you. Try this only when your dog is a trick expert!

Hope this helps ... at hand are also many websites on Google which can give you more pointers and tips ... the trick possibilities are endless!
Well, some dogs are easier to train than others, and certain breeds will "clue-in" to enduring behaviours more than others. Alot of it depends on what their natural behaviours are and what they've been bred to do. For exaple, it's easy to educate a lab to "fetch" because they are retrievers. However, this doesn't mean that certain dogs/breeds will never pick-up a particular trick - it will freshly take a bit longer. The easiest way to teach a dog topical tricks is by watching some of his natural behaviour and then modifying it slightly so that it take the form of trick. Try training him in short sessions several times a day - keep respectively session to just a few minutes so that you keep your dogs attention. Also, what are your dog's natural quirk? does he sometimes stand on his hind legs, or chase his tail? These can be turned into tricks! How cool would it be if your dog stood on his hind legs on command?! Some people think that tail chasing looks close to the dog is "dancing". The behaviours you choose to reward are up to you, and they're based on taste.
For roll over, try keeping the treat out on your fingers the whole time - gain your dog to lie down, then move the treat in a circle right within front of his nose ...he should follow it :)

I'm no expert, but I've had dogs for a long time - so i hope this helps!
