My dog will simply drink when I'm contained by the room near her?

I've recently rescued a 5 yr old mini-dachshund. She was neglected a bit badly by her previous owner. In the two months we've had her, she have made wonderful improvements! Her health and her personality are improving every year. The problem is, she will only eat her dog food when I'm in like room. She will try to eat the cat food sometimes, and doesn't need me in the room for that. But to put away her own food - I have to be standing right there. This is problematic because both my fiancee and I work, and I attend school as in good health. So we can't stand in the kitchen when it's time for her to eat. She is well care for, and gets two walks a day. I simply worry because if I'm gone all hours of daylight, her food will sit in the bowl all day. Untouched. Any proposal would be appreciated. Thank you!
why don't you just feed her when it's your dinner time as capably? then you will be in the same room, doing equal thing!
someone said to put the feed in the crate contained by the evening... bad idea... the dog will have to travel out after it eats...

you can always remove the food if she doesn't get through it. that's what i do with my 6 dogs, don't want it? ok, i'll put it away for later.
they carry the idea that they have to eat when it's at hand, because it doesn't stay there forever.
I had impossible to tell apart problem. We adopted an abused dog and if I was contained by the other room, she would come into the room, look at me, run into the kitchen to take a bite and then come back to see me to craft sure I was still there.

But, whether I stayed in the room, she ate everything.

Anyhow, eventually she grew out of it. My thoughts are that if she is really hungry, she will eat when you are not around.
Not to worry, a healthy dog will not starve itself. Leave her food, if hungry plenty she will eat. BTW, cat food is not good for dogs, keep the cats food where on earth the dog can't get to it.
One, it's not uncommon. Some dogs take bits of food into the living room with its owners when consumption.

Two, you really don't want to leave food out all day. It get stale, attracts other critters, and could contribute to bloating. Put the food out, give the dog 20 minutes or so to eat it, then remove it.
Okay, first of all, the apposite thing is a dog will not starve to death after just soon without food, so give it a go, see whether she will eat one day without anyone here.
Also, I'm just guessing at this, but perhaps find an object (say a jumper) that she associates you next to, has your smell on it, maybe even some of your perfume etc, and leave it close to where on earth she eats.
Another thing is to stand with her, the subsequent time try to be further away, and so forth until she is comfortable eating by herself.
Another thing is, whether she seems to be fine eating the cats food..The good entry about cats food is that although cats cannot survive on dogs food, dogs can eat cats food. So try mixing half of her food beside the cat food, and reducing the cat food until she is use to eating her own dog food.
I hope these work for you :)
on the show Its Me or the Dog Victoria Stillwell had a client that had the exact same problem. dance to www.animalplanet.com and go to its me or the dog section and it reviews almost adjectives the shows and how she solved it or just go t the ask Victoria part.
My mom's dog is approaching that sometimes too. They have him on a feeding schedule that coincides next to either the cooking or eating of their meals. Pup think he's leading the speed eating competition, and they don't have the verbs of him not eating for a few days at a time.

Maybe this can work for you?
Since it was neglected and abused, and you rescued it, perchance it feels its not safe if your not around. I don't know how to solve the problem but try to guarantee her everythingng is ok while you can.
My 5 yr old (80 lb) pit bull will only put away when I'm in the house. The food will sit there until I get domestic from work and then he will eat. It doesn't matter that my husband is at hand, and trust me...he is NOT starving to death.

If its dry food, It will not hurt to leave it out for her adjectives day, she will eat when she is hungry.

Try to keep her out of the cat food, it tend to have more salt in it and its really not a athletic diet for dogs.

good luck. I
this may seem strange but try putting an article of you clothing some where implicit her food and that will help, because she can smell you when she is eating and the smell coming off of your clothes should formulate her feel more comfortable.
Answers:    It is too bad she was previously abused, and it's good that you are providing a biddable home for her.

But be aware that feeling sorry for her, and treating her accordingly, is the second thing she needs.

Determine how many cups of food she get a day, based on the guidelines on the food. In the morning, out 1/2 that amount in her bowl, and go it for 15 minutes. Don't stand there, completely ignore her. After 15 minutes, put the food away. In the evening, do one and the same thing. Eventually, she will learn that there are enduring times food is available, and if she is hungry, she will eat then.

Dogs will not starve themselves, but they are particularly good at manipulating their humans.
Well, first of adjectives, there is NO such thing as a mini Doxie. These are dogs that are runts, bred by unreputable backyard breeders, and usually come near a lot of health problems.

Feed the dog in it's crate. If it's not gone inwardly 30 minutes, pick it up and NO treats until next time you feed your dog. It will not starve.

Why don't you put the cat food on top of your wash machine, or somewhere like that, where the dog can't draw from to it. That's what I did when I had a cat.
I agree next to Jada r and I would look into Victoria Stilwell's method for this problem. The episode is titled Prince of Chaos. According to Animal Planet's schedule, it will be on Nov 27 at 9 a.m. and Dec 1 at 9 p.m. I really hope you watch it (Victoria is seriously the best). Good Luck!
You have done a wonderful thing rescuing a dog, and mini Daxie's are wonderful! I have two mini longs.

Now that she has settled into your home, you should now try to train her when her banquet times are. Put her food down at the same time everyday and after a while remove it, if your dog doesn't eat you still enjoy to take it away. After a while your dog will learn that it have to eat during this time. On the other hand as she has be through a lot, maybe try changing her food. We get a young rescued German Shepherd years back and she refused to chomp through. She got quite thin, contained by the end i changed her food and made up a little warm gravy and poured it on the dinner to try and temp her to get through again. This was a temporary measure but it did the trick!

Very Tenancious wants to learn to use proper grammar!! He rants on most question, do not let him get to you!! I listen to people who can spell and write correctly!

Kips mum has it about right.
this is not uncommon what has happen is your dog has developed such a bond with you in this small amount of time that she is afraid of ingestion without you she feels that when your around that she is safe this may be because you save her from her previous owner. you can break this by having your mom or dad feed he once and a wile and take home a routine
for ex. 7:00 am put food down (and leave room)
7:30 am put food up
8:00 am bring dog out for poo
5:00 pm put food down (leave room
5:30 pm put food up
6:00 pm bring dog out for poo

you can use different times but try to only let the food down 30 min for the first week or so variety shure your in the room so eat and get to know the routine but after that ween her rotten of you by leaving wile she is in the middle of eating soon you will not call for to be in with her at all.
this is what we did it help your dog break a lot of problems
good luck
Ok this is Wat you have to do. At first you hold to get wet food then obtain it warm on the oven. Cuz dogs will be attracted by the wonderful sent. Then try this ovr and ovr. you walk out of the room casual but dont get a lot of noise. If she comes after you then move about bac into the room and do it ovr and ovr. It is gonig to take a while but soon it will work you are just gonna have to contribute this time.

So good luck with your little puppy i hope you get to a point to where on earth you could be outside and she will eat! CUL8
as long as she eats good when u are domestic with her she will be ok.keep food out all the time and when u are beside her let her eat until she is full and it will be enough to sustain her until u are domestic again. my 8 yr old husky will not eat unless i am here with him any but when he does he makes up for it, lol he is well over 100 lbs. i worry when i am out for a while or whether anyone comes over to dog sit because he will not eat for them and even when i give him treats to knaw on while i am out he waits to munch through them when i return.ur pooch wants u to be with her to make certain she is being good and wants ur company at collation times, so just make sure she eat her fill while u are home and she will do fine. good for u within saving her. best of luck
I meditate that if you leave the room, eventually the dog WILL eat the food.
Maybe even a few minutes after you waddle away.
Try a new technique...
At feeding time, I assume the dog is adjoining watching you prepare the food. Call her to the feeding spot. Stand in front of the dog with the food bowl, when she sits and is become quiet, place the food on the floor and walk away.
The 2 walks are great for your dog physically and mentally. Keep that up.
I sense from your writing that you consistency some sympathy/pity for the dog's past...that is something that you have to gain rid of, your dog can sense this in you (that you feel sorry for her). Now that she is with you, within a new life, she is over the past, you call for to be also.
Feel strong and confident when you are around your dog, she will sense that in you and feel safer around you.
You really do not need to verbs about your dog eating, when she is hungry, even when you are not there, she WILL chomp through. I would take the when you are gone.

mine does the same thing, I hold had him for two yrs. and I will put food down in the morning and it's there until we obtain home that night... even then I hold to stand over him and watch him, (same when we used tocrate him we would leave him a treat and he would wait until we come home to eat it.

this month I figured out, the cheaper the food the sooner/more he'll get through, try wet dog food, or mix with a little cat food, He generally roots around and picks all the cat food out.

hope this helps
Wow,you permit a DOG train you?
Put feed & dog in crate-at night, after finishing outing.
Didn't eat? Too bad, nothing until the NEXT dark.
Still? TOO BAD!
Takes a week? Fine.
TRAIN the dog, don't let it train you!
It will NOT starve!!

Oh...pick the -ing catfood UP! Cat food wrecks dogs kidneys.

rotflmao..."healthy MENTALLY..."? Darlin',why did you bother to ask,if you embargo to listen to an EXPERIENCED SANE ADULT? Whatever...your dog...be a doormat if you want to.
Might be stupid, but droop a large picture of yourself above or close to where she's supposed to eat. Worth a try right?
This is pretty regular for the breed. We have several and none of them like to eat alone. Fear of choking, departure or other phobia must be occurring in their minds. Dogs are funny sometimes but remember, they have a self-preservation mentality. They might be stubborn about ingestion but they WILL NOT allow themselves to starve when food is available. Best of luck!
How much would a chihuahua cost at the seattle humane society?   How do you potty train a puppie?   Wanting a Golden Retriever. Is within any requirements?   Should i hang on to feed him?
