Well I one and only know a bit about one type of hunting dog and that is an Australian Pig Hunting dog. They are usually a mixed breed dog.
Commonly mixes are mastiffs, danes, ridge back, wolf hounds, stag hounds, bull arabs, well really I think they will try anything. A bit of this and a bit of that. I haven't met a boar dog that isn't crossed here in Australia but I enjoy met some fantastic piggers.

How do they hunt? Well instead of writing an essay I will give you a link http://www.boardogs.com/Boardogs_Finders...

Amazing troop of dogs to watch, everyone has their owm team which can consist of as little as one dog. There are no rules. The dogs find, and hold the pigs and afterwards the hunter steps in and sticks the pig.

Dogs you can use for hunting:

Labradors- normally used on fowl, especially ducks, as they were bred to retrieve in the cold waters of Canada.

Weimeraners - also in the main used on fowl
Viszlas - used mainly on fowl
Pointers - used on fowl mainly

Beagles - used for small game approaching squirrels and rabbits
Foxhounds - used for fox hunting - also the foundation breed for the Coonhound breeds - especially the treeing Walker who looks a lot like a Foxhound (save for the Plott Hound which be descended from German Hounds)
Harriers - foxes, small game, rabbits

Terriers - bred for hunting small game - especially mice, rats, moles and badger - as the word terrier comes from Latin "Terra" - which means ground. They were little dogs that could go to ground to hunt their kill (another word for prey).

Coonhounds -

Blueticks, Redbones, Walkers, and Plott Hounds mainly were bred to hunt raccoon and they bay/howl - some louder than others (like the Bluetick which is often prearranged for a deep throaty howl heard for miles called a bawl mouth) to permit the hunter know they have treed a raccoon.
Other hunting uses for the Coonhounds are on big game such as tracking bear and mountain lions.

Like the Foxhound - the Coonhound have sanctioned hunts in that no animals are killed, only trailed. Points are given for who treed the raccoons first, and how oodles raccoons are spotted in the tree. The judge keeps a scorecard and writes down points for respectively dog in a brace and once the hunt is over - the points determine who is Nite Champion. So many championships and the dog can claim Grand Nite Champion - which my one Bluetick that just now passed of illness had Grand Nite Champions on both sides - her dam won the title (once) as did her sire (multiple). The breeder I get her from I told him I was not going to hunt her and she was the puppy he thought didn't seem to hold the drive that the other pups did (but I got to take her out once on a training run with friends and she did resourcefully - she even treed a coon before their trained dog did.
I currently have a 3 yr old Redbone feminine (Reba) and a 4 yr old Bluetick male (Dale) - that I adopted from local shelters - they are spayed/neutered and I do not hunt but I hold always been interested in what the innovative purpose of a dog was and have read many dog books since childhood. I would similar to to get them into scent training if I could ever find the time and perhaps qualify for SAR (Search and Rescue)
Why so many questions? XD
Types of hunting? Not certain
How they hunt: run, catch, kill
Hunting dogs hunt mostly small animals.
You already asked how.
Retrievers retrieve the dead hunt.

No view.
Still, no idea

and for the last, I really don't know.

Wolves hunt as a pack. If a dog is the be left alone near no food, they may go back to thier primal state and hunt for food.
Hounds, pointers, terriers, retrievers, setters, etc and etc, infinite breeds of dogs...

Each dog have a different style based on their group. Scenthounds find game using their nose, sighthounds view with their vision. Pointers point out game, retrievers fetch shot hobby. And so on.

What they hunt depends on the breed and what they specialized in... Beagles hunt rabbits, Labradors retrieve ducks and other fowl. I haven't focused on what they hunt so I can't really name all of them.

Retrievers are hunting dogs within my opinion, since they help the hunter, hunt.

Most hounds are hunting dogs as far as I know. Beagles hunt rabbits, Foxhounds hunt foxes, etc.

There's food ready... I might finish answering adjectives these questions later...
Groups:
Sporting and Hounds are the hunting groups. Terriers are used to lock in vermin, like cats. Well...I guess you could think of cats as hunters, couldnt you?

Sporting Groups point to, flush, and/or retrieve life-size birds such as Geese, Ducks, Pheasents, and Grouse.

Hounds hunt a variety of things depending on the breed. For example: Coonhounds are used to tree Racoon, Afghans are/were used for chasing large game such as deer and leopard, Beagles and Bassets were/are used for hunting hares, Irish Wolfhounds were/are used for trailing wolves, and some approaching the Rodesian Ridgeback even hunted lions.

Yes, Retrievers are hunting dogs. I have a Labrador Retriever we take hunting and without her it would be much harder. I guess you could only just think of them a "helping hand to hunters" and not hunters themselves, but, they were bred to work alongside hunters. So...I do consider them hunters.

I can only answer you with what I know give or take a few the dogs you have asked about. Retrievers are just that they bring stern what the hunter has shot down. They are a hunter companion. They are in sporting dog group along with copious other breeds of dogs. They are used to retrieve water fowl & to retrieve land birds too!
No Retrievers are not hunting dogs as in they will desire out the animal to be hunted, that is not their function.
Although I have to add my Golden's have been known to bring me home some frantic turkeys and other assorted birds to my back deck. :) Higher prey drive.

I know nothing about the Hound group so I can't comment on that group.

My culture of the Terrier group is limited.
Norfolk Terriers will hunt for Raccoons, badgers, opossums, rats any vermin.

They adjectives work or they should! Some will hunt for their supper while others will be happy with what they get from us humans.

ADD: Ok whether you want to be technical none of the breeds you have mentioned are in the working group of dogs.

Animal: It cold as heck here and dreary! My brain is frozen!
oh man. I can't think that tricky.. it's Sunday and I'm supposed to be out working my dogs.

Hunting dogs-
Sporting Group- which is slated to be broken down into the Retrievers & Spaniels and the Pointers & Setters
Hound Group- which is slated to be broken down into the Scent Hounds and the Sight Hounds
Terriers
and any other danged dog from whatever group who also assists man or themselves in catching, flushing, retrieving, pointing at or killing prey.

This is wayyy too surrounded by depth for me to explain on a SUNNY Sunday afternoon! Its SEATTLE here and I may not see the sun for months.

Off to work my dogs who are not going to be hunting today!
try the sporting group.
Answers:    I am not an expert at this subject but I will give it a try so be gentle.

Sight hounds stalk and chase
They hunt animals close to deer and rabbit.
Examples of sight hounds are Afghan, Borzoi, Sulakis and Whippets

Scent hounds hunt by tracking and following scent and are usually used in pack
They are used to hunt all types of animals from bear to raccoons
Examples of scent hounds are Beagle, Bloodhound, Foxhound and Basset Hound

Gun dogs or sporting dogs aid the hunter by retrieving game
the activity is usually birds
I think retrievers are hunting dogs because they do aid the human while hunting.

The difference between hunting terriers and working terriers is that working terriers go below ground and hunting terriers stay above ground.
These terriers work:
Patterdale Terrier
Border Terrier
Cairn Terrier
and more..

Not physical sure which terriers hunt. Would that be a Jack russell?

quarry is prey or hunted animal
raccoons, otters, badgers, rodents, etc
