Should we remove the skin ticket ourselves?

My dog have a very large skin strip on his side. It is gross and sometimes he licks it and it bleeds just a little bit and leaves blood spots on my bed. We took him to the vet nowadays because of it and he wants us to pay $400 dollars to remove it. We are not rich people and the vet said even though its gross its safe to him. It doesn't seem to hurt him at all ( my dog) I just antipathy the blood spots on my bed. My husbands friend who is a farmer said that we just need to tie it past its sell-by date with dental floss which will block the blood flow and then it will eventually fall stale. He said he would give us amoxicillin to prevent infection. I can't afford $400 for something non life threatening to him especially near Christmas coming... has anyone tried this or something similar?
Do not remove it yourself..you could cause more problems and even en infection. Just put a t-shirt on your dog before he lays on your bed.
If you can't afford it, don't do it. Unless you understand exactly how it will affect the dog, and have received professional training within healing this type of wound, it's dangerous to do it yourself.

If you don't want blood on your bed, then preserve him off the bed, and to keep him from licking it, you can always attain a cone to put over his head. And if it's really important, I don`t know you can put your Christmas money towards your dog.
Answers:    Oh my, why would you even want to try something like that? Sounds like it would be extremely painful for the dog, plus you have no idea what the dog will do next to something like that attached to his skin. He may rip it off causing further mar to himself which will cost you another vet visit and possibly some surgery to repair what he rips off. don't screw around with something similar to this. Just keep the dog off the bed and make him sleep within his own bed. You can put towels on his bed and throw them in the washer to clean if they achieve blood on them. If it were me, I'd find someway to pay the vet to remove the tag or find a low cost clinic who would do it for a low-grade amount.
Has your husband's friend tried this? With what type of animal? I would say he's the one to bargain to.
I know from castrating animals that it will take many days for the tag to "eventually" crash off, during which time it is absolutely essential the string or anything you use not come off. If your dog bites at or rubs up against something and manages to tear the tie-off, the "dead" blood will be released vertebrae into his blood stream. Very bad. If size allows, I would think a very sturdy rubber belt would be preferable to string. It's your dog, your bed, your money, and your rubber band...it's up to you if you want to try it. Taking him to the vet will involve risks too...only you won't get the impression quite so guilty about whatever happen. Frankly, I would shop for another quote. Maybe from a horse vet.
