What characteristics of dogs are general public not allergic to?
Non-allergenic dogs.
All dogs shed-- from poodles to Olde English Sheepdogs
Hypoallergenic-- Sheds LESS not ShedLESS
All dogs shed something. Whether it's regular dogs (fur & skin cells), or hypoallergenic (less fur & less skin cells), or hairless (skin cells), they ALL shed.

There's no such thing as a hypo-allergenic dog...every dog sheds, every dog produces dander, and every dog have saliva and mucus membranes...the three areas that people are allergic to...some people have fur allergies, some enjoy allergies to dander, some are allergic to the saliva/mucus.

Most hypoallergenic dogs are those that do not shed or shed really little. I have a bichon frise and it is a hypoallergenic family dog. It is recommended by AKC for allergy sufferers. Check out the website i added to see more hypoallergenic dogs.

You can be allergic to all breeds of dogs some dont explanation all people to be allergic. Yorkies for example are a great breed that dont always inflict allergies I have one and I love him
no dog is 100% hypoallergenic.. it just depends on the entity.
Poodles and Bichons are generally well-tolerated by people with allergies tho.
Answers: Generally, dogs that need haircuts (instead of shedding) cause smaller quantity allergies. It's actually the dander that most folks are allergic to. Dogs like poodles and terriers.

I have allergies and my maltese doesn't bother me AT ALL!

a woman I know is highly allergic to dogs. She recently bought a Shorkie (Shi Tzu/Yorkie mix) and has have no problems with her allergies yet.
