What dog breed meet these standards?
My dog died about two months ago of cancer. My parents want to get a new one, but I don't. Not one and only do I still miss my old dog very badly, but she be perfect because she was able to coexist near all the other pets we have.
Requirements for the new dog:
o Must be terrier sized, not necessarily a terrier, but basically around that size.
o Extremely Lovable and Sweet.
o Playful.
o MUST (this is very important) be able to tolerate or get along beside: cats, rabbits, rodents, ducks, other birds, etc. It will be sharing it's home with all of these.
And do you have a sneaking suspicion that we should get male or female? Do you give attention to one is better than the other? Thanks! By the way, my family is fond of terriers.
Terrier breeds are normally not the type to get when you own ducks/rodents/rabbits/birds.
Has your family considered adoption? Look on Petfinder.com to see if in that are any dogs available for adoption that fit your criteria. Most places have a basic write up for the animals, and if you look at rescues that rely on foster diligence, you'll know a lot more about the dogs, including animals they get along near. :)
Get them either as a infantile puppy and train them to co-exist, or rescue a shelter dog that is grown so you already know that it can meet these requirments.

Just take the quiz, this is the Animal Planet website.
"terrier sized" is a outstandingly broad term. That's anywhere from like fifteen to sixty pounds...
And do your research, then chief to a shelter or find a rescue that fosters... you'll find something. I recommend a foster rescue because they'll be able to accurately tell you what animals the dog has be around and how well it does with other pets and people.
Sorry for your loss.
Good luck!
Boston terrier, Shi ztu, possibly a regular-sized dachsund, Bichon Frise
as far as sex, I prefer females but that is due to MY personality not the dog's. I know people and family that do much better with boy dogs than girl dogs and vice versa. You should be more worried about the calmness of the dog and whether or not the dog you are picking have a high prey-drive, rather than focus on gender.
hi,
to know what type of dog will suit you, you can use this dog finder match up http://dogtime.com/matchup/start
the goal here is to help you amount out what type of dog best suits you and your personality. The results of the match up will suggest absolute breeds.
hope this helps
I wouldnt reccommend a terrier next to the other pets.. terriers tend to have a high prey drive and may enjoy tormenting or even bloodbath your other pets.
You may want to check out breeds from the toy group...
what about things like grooming needs? Trainability? Good beside kids?

Terriers come in many sizes. Go to your local animal shelter and adopt a dog.
Females are usually very protective of the line and love them alot.
I know this will sound like a broken record but I don`t know you should look into the shelter, alot of dogs they get there are small and need a moment chance
Answers: I'm always adjectives about trying to adopt shelter dogs. Just keep in intellect since there isn't a breed standard you might not get what you really had surrounded by mind. I adopted one dog that was expected to be going on for 35 lbs but is nearly 60lbs now (build like a greyhound super long, lean muscles, so not fat). He is the world's sweetest thing though.
If you want an actual breed that fits adjectives of that, try a Cavalier King Charles. They have great personalities, are terrier size, great with relations, are nicknamed the love sponge or the ultimate lap dog, confident to train, and do well around all different species.
Sorry to hear around your dog. They become just like any human member of the relations and it's hard to see them go. My heart goes out to you.
It's strong to say by breed alone which dog would be best. I had a pit bull whose best friends were a couple of thin on top rats. And she was fully grown when she met them. But usually if you win a dog as a pup they will learn to get along with other animals only by growing up with them as playmates. I don't think male or womanly will make a difference, accept that males are more likely to wish out dominance. I agree with the girl above me. Shelters are never lacking in choices, and terrier is a broad dog category. The little girl within me always thinks of scottie dogs when I think terrier, but you will find a far-reaching range in the shelter. Maybe you'll strike gold and find an forsaken farm dog... Good luck in your searching and blessings contained by your healing :)
