What happen to solitary dogs?
Okay; I know that in urban centres we have dog catchers and dog pounds. But my neighbours have a dog that they didn't want and rumour is that their Dad drove the dog out to the country and let it go. I don't know for sure but it get me thinking. What happens when city dogs are let go contained by the country? What becomes of them and where do they go?
Where I live up in the mountains of California, they would never craft it long. There are a lot of animal predators up here that would love to make a meal out of a domestic dog. If the predators don't acquire them the cars will.
By the way, your neighbor is a * jack***!
I live surrounded by the country
dumping dogs in the country is illegal - it is a crime called Animal Abandonment - whether caught the person would have to pay a fine or something depending on stuff..
- farmers shoot them because they become agressive to livestock
- they come together up with other "feral" dogs and form packs
- they are killed by coyotees
- caught and brought to the shelter
- starve to departure
- run and run and run, looking for their owner..
very rarely do they get picked up and taken within but sometimes if the dog is cute or friendly and the farmer wants a dog, but most already hold dogs...
Answers: You right to be heard you're not sure what he did with the dog. Just hope that he didn't drop it in the country. If he dropped it contained by our area he has most likely signed this dog's loss warrant.
We live in a small village surrounded by farms. Our nearest animal shelter and animal control officer is over 50 miles absent and they do not come out here to pick up strays.
The most common cause of death here is gunshot wounds followed by any starvation or being hit by a vehicle. The first place a domestic dogs heads for is the farms where on earth they start molesting the farm animals. That's an automatic death sentence.
I have one of these dogs. The with the sole purpose reason that I do have him is that he had not threatened any other animal however. But he is the only one of the four that were running around that did survive. And only because he come to his rescuer when he was called. If he had run he would hold been shot on the spot. And this was expensive to our community. These dogs were hunted for over three months minus public funding. This all comes out of the farmer's pockets.
One of the main causes of disfavour to our vehicles is accidents caused by hitting animals. We don't swerve for animals here. Do that on a gravel road and you come to an end up inverted in a field. If a dog or any other animal gets doing a tour, well, that's too bad.
As for the people that avoid these dogs; I have no use for them. Besides performing an illegal act (here, anyway) they are cold SOB's who place no value on an animal's life. They should all be dropped sour in a deserted place as part of their punishment.
when dogs are let loose their fate is usually annihilation. either they end of starving to extermination, freezing to death, becoming a victim of a hit and run, or another natural animal's meal. on the rare occasion some fully clad human being may find it and take it in, or the dog will find other loose dogs and form a pack, but those are impressively rare.
you really should call the police on your neighbors.
most towns have dog catchers and shelters, so whether no one takes it in it any a) starves or b) gets put in the shelter
Well, country folks have dog catchers and pounds too. Were I live, we have a problem near pitt fighting, they will pick strays up to train their pitts. Yes, they let their dogs kill them. Some lately live in the wild, even in pack. The lucky ones will come up on or are picked up by people. I had someone drop 12 cats and kittens, and puppies in my courtyard once. Luckily I was in a position to find homes for all.
Usually whether another person does not adopt them they slowly starve to death unless they're hit by a car. If they catch picked up by the pound they are kept for a few months until they're put to sleep when not adopted.
resourcefully to be honest it will either be ate by a cougar or cayote they love dogs. or he will starve to death or get hit on a close to highway or get on someones ranch and be shot for worrying or harming livestock *yes to be exact legal to shoot a wandering dog if its near the livestock*
maby found by someone and given a contemporary home.. Hopefully
City dogs are used to being pampered and cared for. How long hold they had that dog? If they had had it for a long time, it should be used to human being fed and won't be able to find its own food. If nothing take it to a shelter it is most likely to starve to death. In the country there are alot of in their natural habitat animals, if this dog has not yet studious to fend itself, it will get attacked depending on the animal. A cougar WILL attack and mostly win its dinner. But if there is anyone around, country general public love dogs, hopefully a dog lover will give it a nice home. It could get shot by a cultivator, rancher, etc.
Ah yes, country people just LOVE folks like that. Because of course, they do not have their own animals to caution for.
What happens?
1. Someone takes them in and care for them
2. Someone takes the dog to the pound/shelter/rescue
3. Someone shoots the dog
Guess which one is the most common?
If someone finds it it would probably be brought to a local shelter or given to someone likely to take it. If the shelter couldn't find a home it would be euthanized.
If no one finds it, it depends on the dogs instincts and luck. It could roam off to find people and pick off of snippets, it could be hit by a car, it could get eaten by a predator, it could starve to demise because it can't hunt like a real wild animal.
That Dad is an ***! That is the last thing you should do to a dog. I'd a bit take him to a shelter and have the shelter kill him humanely. The dog could capture run over, starve to death, freeze to death, get attacked by other animals, etc.
That depends on a lot of things. I cogitate that some dogs (very few) could revert back to instincts and hunt for food. They could find other stray dogs and form a pack. But for the most part I would say that they die, alone and wounded. They could get shot, attacked by wild animals, run over by car, truck tend machines etc. Maybe a lucky few could find a kind soul at a farm and get taken surrounded by.
But the odds are stacked against these poor dogs.
My Grandmother used to live on a farm and she found a Pomeranian that had be running in a pack of "wild dogs". She rescued him shaved him down to nothing because he be covered in tar & dried mud and named him Peppy. He lived next to her until dying days. He was one of the lucky ones.
probably wonder back to the city, possibly get hit by cars(very sad) and whether they do get to the city the pound will catch it.
if somebody wants to leave their dog(s) they take them to their shelter to either get put down or find a loving domestic. (If you ever want a dog, get one from the shelter they are very sweet and dedicated to their owners!) I am going to catch a chihuahua from the shelter this weekend...I can't wait!
