What is a devout domestic remedy for ear mites contained by dogs?
I have a Newfoundland, and cannot seem to get rid of his ear mites. I hold taken him to the vet who gives us medicine for it, and the medicine works, but as soon as the medication runs out, he gets ear mites again. I clean them every few days with rubbing alcohol, but wonder what else I can do to comfort my Newfie...
There conspicuously ARE home remedies for ear mites. My friend and mentor's husband is a vet...I have bought several puppies from her. She shows and is also what people on Answers name a BYB. Even tho she produces show prospects, she is a BYB by the standards of all the experts on Answers.
She told me to use oil...any kind of grease. cooking, baby, olive...put a little flea powder in it...the grease creates an enviornment that the mite cannot live or reproduce in. So w/regular cleaning the mites will be gone. It works.
If they hold on to coming back, then it's either not ear mites or the treatment isn't working properly. Once ear mites are gone, they're gone - they're with the sole purpose transmitted by close contact with other dogs, usually from the dog's mother, so unless there's another dog that this one is being adjectives snuggly with I would say either a) it isn't ear mites or b) you want a different treatment.
One thing you should realise; if vet treatment isn't working, a home remedy isn't going to, is it! Depending on how much of an infestation here is in the ears, you may need an antibiotic/steroidal ear drop like Canaural, or a lower problem can be controlled with Revolution, the flea spot-on treatment that also treats ear mites.
Tell your vet was is happening so they can give support to you further!! This is what you're supposed to do when prescribed treatment appears not to be having the desired effect; turning to home remedies and Yahoo Answers is certainly not the agency to go.

EDIT: Leslie's friend's husband is either a quack, a loon or a phoney vet, or she's seriously misunderstood some advice. Worrying.
one drop of wesson oil a day for 3 days, hope this helps.
Make sure you are really dealing with ear mites. That is not a comon problem next to newfies. That might be why the medication is not working. Food allergies can cause ear problems too. I would consult another vet to make certain the diagnosis is correct.
Answers: lf the mites are coming back then you need to see the vet again, never put anything within your dogs ears that hasn't been prescribed by your vet, it can cause permanent weaken to your dogs hearing.
My dog suffers from recurrent ear infections, l need to verbs them twice weekly and also use the ear drops when it flares up, but it does keep coming back, it may be an infection your dog has this time, some dogs are prone to it.
There are no "home remedies".. you will simply need to continue with the miticide from the vet.. or enjoy the vet re-evaluate his ears to be sure it is mites and not an infection.
There are NO "home remedies" for ear mites - you need to hold on to on using the medicine your vet prescribed until the mites are gone - absolutely gone.
Use mineral grease, not baby oil. Baby oil have other ingredients that can irritate.
There is this thing most people enjoy called a "telephone". Use it to call your vet.
There are no home remedies for ear mites.
