Be really careful, first of all, where you seize your dog from. I would recommend before anything, going to your local animal shelter. They have puppies as well as adults, contained by all sizes. I wouldnt recommend buying a dog off the internet because they might be, or be affiliated with a puppy mill (stoppuppymills.org).
And also, it really freshly depends on what upkeep and time you have for the dog.

Designer breeds are nothing but exspensive poorly bred mutts that also come from irresponsible breeders and puppy mills. No reputable breeder would EVER put on the market a MUTT!

One BIG consideration. If you do not like dog fleece every where - look only at dogs that do not shed. You will spend some money for trimming, unless you can do it yourself, but, it will be worth it.

try getting a puggle! they are a mix between a pug and a beagle and they are usually small and stocky. they're really cute but are pretty tough to find. we have to go to virginia to get my dog. but they are soooo totally worth it, try googling for more info.
Miniature Dachshund!! I hold one and she is the best dog I've ever had, so cute and sweet, she loves to cuddle and has a great personality.

I would recommend getting a Yorkshire Terrier. Teacup, or normal sized. They don't shead, they don't inevitability exercise, and they don't need much food, so less out of you pocketbook. Yorkies are really nice tward all ages, and empire.
