The Dalmatian was created in the Middle Ages in India to be both a hunting and horse-drawn carriage dog before there were motor vehicle.

Today this dog is most recognizable as the dog that accompanies firefighters when they are on duty.

Energy and stamina are words that describe the Dalmatian. They never tire and dont like to sit around next to nothing to do. They are very happy and loyal dogs. They are happiest when within the presence of their family and dont do well when placed outside. They do gross great pets with children but may have too much energy for a small child. They seize along well with other animals but mat become aggressive with spanking new dogs.

Dalmatians have blue or brown eyes that are set wide apart on the skull. Their ears are wider at the stand than they are at the rounded tip. They lie flat on the skull close to the face. Their proboscis is small with the color varying depending on the color of the spots. Their lips are tight and closed. Their tail is curved and it is carried slightly lowered. Their straight legs and are well toned as they get their round and compact feet. Their coat is short and dense with a sleek feel. The ground color to the dog is white and may hold spots, patches or tricolor markings on top of it. Sport is round and very distinct. They are smaller on the manager than on the body and they are evenly distributed. Patches are a solid mass of color (black or liver) with no white hair. They are present at birth and dont go absent. Dalmatians are medium-sized, short coated dogs. The accepted size in the USA is between 19-24 inches at the shoulder. Weight ranges from 40-70 pounds. Females are generally smaller than males.

Today, masses Dalmatians are much larger than the accepted breed standard. Males can be seen as large as 27 inches and weigh 90 pounds. In Great Britain, Dalmatians are generally larger than in the States. The Dalmatian is built for long distance endurance. It is well-muscled, without mortal coarse, with a capacious, deep chest. The coat is quite short and predominantly white beside distinctive round spots in either black or liver (brown). The spots range contained by diameter from the size of a dime to the size of a half-dollar. Some Dalmatians have one or more 'patches'. These are large unbroken areas of black or brown, which are silkier in texture. Although the spots are already present as skin spots at birth, Dalmatians are born beside pure white fur, unless patched.
