What is a apposite non-corn-based food for our dogs?
Well, first, what are your opinions about dog foods with corn as an ingredient as opposing those that do not have corn? I have been reading more or less this, but it's not clear to me whether non-corn foods are best for all dogs or just those with a sensitivity or allergy to corn and wheat.
And what are some worthy foods for our two pit bulls, one four years old and the other four months?
I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild Wetlands Formula (they enjoy like 3 formulas, all of which are grain-free).
Sometimes is may not be about corn, but grain in general.
Generally, places like PetSmart do not put up for sale the actual completely grain-free foods. They may say "all-natural" but do pay attention to the ingredients.
Another thing to avoid are by-products.
If you can find a place that sell grain-free, get a sample pack of each food (should be a small pouch). Then, next to your dogs in another room, lay down each bag open in a row.
Let one dog in, and it should go sniff respectively of the bags and then start eating the one it like.
You would think that some dogs would eat all of the food, but they dont. Its a tidy thing to see actually.
Hope that helps :)
I have a Staffordshire Pit that I nurture Solid Gold Wolfking, the puppy formula is WolfCub. It has everything your dogs will ever need from Bison, rice, Salmon oil, and even Blueberries contained by it. Some dogs have a lot of trouble digesting corn because it metabolizes in their systems duplicate way sugar does in ours, its like feed a 5 year old nothing but sugar candy for his entire diet, it also effects their seratonin level which causes them to be aggressive, or have other behavior problems. This is the main do of why people have "BAD" dogs and they don't even realize they are feeding the "badness" to them. When I first get my Pit at 10 mths old she had tons of spots with hackle missing and had bumps on her tail that itched, the vet didn't even know what to do. When I took her to the local pet store one of the boys working there told me it be a food allergy, to put her on Solid Gold, within 1 week her hair was rear and the bumps were gone, plus she stopped scratching herself. I also use this brand for my dogs daily vitamins, integrated pills etc. I really do recommend it, but I do wish they would give coupons for their products since I have never be able to find any.
My dog eat Eukanuba Naturally Wild. It's the only Eukanuba I found without corn in it.
The four year old-fashioned should be eating adult food, the four month old should be intake puppy food.
I expect to get 100 thumbs down for not feeding my dog the most expensive brands there are.
Corn is not a virtuous ingredient for dog food because dogs have a carnivore's stomach and it is not intended to digest grains. And yes, corn and grain allergies are also aggravated by a grain-based food.
There is no "best" dog food. You enjoy to experiment. I feed Blue Buffalo and the main ingredient of my dog food is fish and sweet potatoes.
Corn is a cheap filler. It offers no nutritional benefit to a dog.
I feed my dog Solid Gold Wolfking. I hold had good results with Natural Balance and Wellness as capably. There are many healthy options out near. For the most part if you can get it at a grocery or reduction store it is not going to be at the better end of the food spectrum.
Best thing I can tell you is to read the ingredients panel on the dog food. The first 5 ingredients should include a meat, a meat feast, and one carbohydrate source. If the only meat source is by products or animal fat you will want to stay away from that food.
a bit of corn is ok (my vet said) but the first three ingriedients cannot enjoy corn or meat by products of soy those are not good for dogs. i feed my dog nutro natural choice and its working great! but remember as long as corn ,soy or meat by product is not surrounded by the first three ingredients its a good dog food. hope it helps
good luck:)
It normally depends on the dog. Mine do well on some corn, but cannot tolerate Barley at all. All food with Barley tender two of them awful diarrhea, so I would rather go next to corn than Barley.
Our dog have a really sensitive stomach and he's always getting sick. We started using Avoderm brand lamb and brown rice formula and he's been doing really, really well. It be also one of the brands that was not affected by the Chinese recall.
Answers: Food that does not contain corn, wheat, or soy is vastly better than those who do.
Foods that use rice as a grain source are a step up, brown rice being even better.
Foods that are grain-free are the best kibbled dog food.
In my inference, raw diet is the best possible food all around.
You have to wish how far you want to go.
These are the foods I recommend to clients:
