What is a righteous breed of dog for a home next to kids?
Im looking for a cute small to medium sized dog that is very mellow and comfortable to train that also is good around children. Does one even exist? I love Chihuahua's and Jack Russell Terriers because they are cute but they don't fit this description unfortunately. Help please!
beagle
The two best Family dogs one of which is the most registered and the other is the most owned by family's Labrador Retriever and a Golden Retriever both a technical large breed dogs though and hold allot of energy, it seems large breed dogs are better near children but they do have allot of energy and need training and exercise, that come next to every dog though, To be honest look in to getting a pug it might just be what you are looking for. Take a trip to you local shelter see if at hand is a pup you could love there its always good to rescue and even whether you dont find a pup at a shelter realize while you are there that you dont want you dog to go there so step up and pilfer the responsibility to ensure it doesnt.
Boston Terriers are very, exceedingly loyal and they love small children and they love to play. They are oh so gentle and love attention. They are easy to groom (a quick brush once a week)
and enjoy very little health problems, but since they have short muzzles they snort and snore impressively much. Aside from that, they are great guards because of their big, loud bark and high speed and powerful jaws. They have a BIG self-image. They would never bite anyone but somebody that is trying to break in. They are very unproblematic to train and love to learn
Good Luck!
Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Provided you get one from a reputable breeder that breeds for temperament.
Temperament
From the recent past history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the modern dog draws its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity. This, coupled near its affection for its friends, and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, make it a foremost all-purpose dog.

how about a Bichon Frise:
These little dogs make good familial pets. They are good with children as well as other animals. Very intelligent, effortless to train and lively. Their coat doesn't shred.
edit. found this web site on them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bichon_Fris...
There are lots of breeds that are good next to children, but it's best to choose one from the list of dogs that have a history of being great family connections pets.
Small dogs aren't always a good choice as they can be snappy and nervous. Large breeds may be fundamentally mellow, but their sheer size can be a problem. A lot depends on your home, lifestyle and the age of your children too.
Check out the webpage below for more advice and information on the best dog breeds for children. Good luck!
Golden Retrievers - they are very social dogs and very loyal. they have a fitting amount of energy and love kids. They are medium size dogs and don't require too much grooming other than a tub.
I know you said mellow, I don't think they are way too energetic but the dog will play all right with the kids. Everyone I have had, have a wonderful hilarious personality.
How do you feel about grooming? I deem a chihuahua is too small for young children because they can't get hurt easiily. I like the belief of a beagle, and to be honest if you don't mind grooming a well bred cocker is great. I enjoy a two and three year old and two cocker spaniels who have grown up together. They are best of friends and the cockers have such an uncomplicated going temperament.
Rat Terriers, we LOVE them! They are awesome with the kids and other dogs and are pretty undemanding to train with positive reinforcement. Go to my website at michaelamberskinner.weebly.com if you want to see some photo's. They not totally mellow (no dog is) but much more so than a Jack Russell (that was the breed we be going to go with when we got our first dogs). We picked Rat Terriers because they are somewhat similar to Jacks but peacemaker and easier to train. If you have any more questions I would be happy to help out!
i hate when populace ask for tipe of dog that does not exist.dont be lazy to train and every dog can be good for kids. bigger breeds are softer with youngsters. smaller dogs are by temper more aggressive(protective) and nervous then bigger dogs.
so, i would pick boxer, german shepard or lab before chihuahua surrounded by a heart beat.boxers are known to be the best with kids.they are amazingly gentle with them.
BOXERS. I have two of them. They are very loving. They estimate they are 4 pound lap cats! When you are watching t.v. they will curl up next to u.
If you're getting a dog, be sure to go to the SPCA. We got a rescue dog here two days ago in San Francisco and there are tons of small breeds including Chihuahuas.
I was told it be because of the Chihuahua movie that came out -- now in attendance are a ton available.
Save a dog! :)
How more or less a papillion? We have one and she is great. She loves everyone and is not too yappy.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are cute and very polite with children.but they tend to be expensive...and prone to heart problems.
Answers: go to your local animal shelter and choose one as a family circle. they shelter staff can help you pick the right one for your situation.
Charles spaniels are gentle. so are basset hounds.
I have owned or fosterd so so many different breeds of ddogs of all sizes and one of the real best breeds for kids are Labs or even Lab mixes. They are very intelligent, tolerant and generally very straightforward going happy go lucky dog. They are very inteligent and dying to please.
BUT ALL dogs no matter the breed do need to be raised socialized right particularly with kids.
I would also say King Charles Cavaliers are great companion dogs as well as the Corgi. The Corgi is a smaller dog but have a big dog personality and are great with kids.
A bulldog, there docile.
oh definitely go with a shetland sheepdog. These are mini collies, and are the BEST!! family unit dogs. My mom's sheltie is the best dog ever, easy to train, smart, cute, pretty, and very very protective of their nearest and dearest without being aggressive. My sheltie always tried to group my sister away from the street, haha. They're great children guardians and are very gentle. They weigh at most 25lbs when full grown. Most any herd dog is a good bet actually...
A miniature australian shepherd. They are super sweet, loyal to the family, protective, divine, and super smart!
