What is a inherent flea deterrent for your dog?

I have heard that feeding your dog garlic works, but i hold read and asked my vet if it is recommended. He said that it may upset their stomach for it being strong, but i was reading on a website that it breaks down their red cell count. Does anyone know what is a moral natural flea deterrent?
Tea tree oil behind the ears and on the nape of the neck will hold on to fleas and ticks away. You should keep her inside for a while afterwards as some dogs don`t like the smell and will jump straight out to role in the mud. It is really effective and also works on humans.
We have used diluted vinegar and water! It's crude and inexpensive. The coat shines, and it smells clean afterwards. It's very safe and have other benefits internally if they lick it. My dog has gotten so use to it, that she wants to be wipe down with it. NO FLEAS! Be careful about getting it within your pooches eyes!!

People use this to get rid of lice, shampoo build up, etc...
I use it for high cholesterol, well it's not dignified anymore! :)
No more sore throats either!!

It's good for laundry, etc...

One of Jehovah God's wonderful creations!!

P.S. Please don't use garlic. Some dogs may do okay on it, but most don't. Just like a dog might guzzle onions or chocolate but they are toxic to them.
For sure not garlic. Your source saying it messes up their blood is right. I moved to the desert to draw from rid of fleas since it is too dry for them to survive. The fleas died within a week and never came rear legs.
I use 2 tbl sps white vinegar per gallon of drinking water for my dogs. They enjoy access to the yard at all times and I've never had fleas on them. I've be using it on Amos since he was a puppy, he's 9 yrs old now and never have fleas, or a tick come to think of it.
Get flea meds from your vet. Do not use domestic remedies suggested by total strangers on the internet.
I second the teatree opinion. You can also buy teatree collars in most pet shops.
Also works for cats!
