Why do dogs turn round and round and round on same spot past settling down?
Because they can?
Because they know how to luxuriate?
Because they like rubbing your nose in the reality that they are going back to bed after a nice walk while you are frantically getting ready for work?
I believe that it is ,originally,to move any uncomfortable lumps or snakes or thingies they don't want .
My dog must be a bit backwards then lol. He's a 13 year old Jack Russell and he turns in circles when he's not certain in which direction he's going to wander in subsequent. He'll jump down off my bed, look up at me then turn around on the spot, consequently wander off under the table and settle down, or saunter off towards the door and find his toy or something. When he lays down to go to sleep he just go to the spot he wants to lay in, be it the floor or on the couch or my bed, and slumps himself down straight absent!
It's to make where they are going to sit on comfier
Possibly all of the above.
One theory I heard be that it is a throw back to when they were wild. The view goes that they would circle an area in long grass to trample it down and so making a comfortable place to catch some z's. Maybe for comfort, maybe to supply a good place to view the comings and goings of other animals.
Still, I think they're smug when they turn back to sleep when you're heading out the door.
Most animals tend to "explore" the spot where they intend to recline. They want to be sure their little nest is comfortable. It does take home you envious if you have to face a day's work, while adjectives they have to do is nap. One morning my daughter was playing next to her cat. She left the cat in a brown paper grocery sack perched harmfully on the edge of her bed, and the cat fell asleep there. We both went bad to work. Nine hours later when I returned home, the cat was still sleeping surrounded by the sack. I've always wondered if the cat had if truth be told slept there all day, because I didn't see how she could hold gotten out and then returned without the bag falling bad the bed. Always a mystery.
It's all of the above plus a nesting intuition. I have two Golden Retriever ladies and the younger one does this all the time. It is almost as whether she is in a trance!! The older one doesn't do it and never has done!!
It is so cute to see!
how would i know? i'm not a vterinariu..vetrynar...im not a dog doctor!
a moment ago kidding.. bored and fed up right now (flu) of late wanted a laugh.
it is instinct they do it to face the differing direction the wind is blowing so they can smell any intruders easier the wind would carry the smell to them
Answers: LOL! I close to the last one best, but I think it is their version of fluffing the pillows in the past going to bed.
it's intuition. they used to do it in the wild to clear the area of small rocks and sticks.
I was told that he was looking for the head of his bed. lol
Its a built in intuition to flatten the grass to make their bed more comfortable.
Undoubtedly a precautionary practise dating back to when they were wild animals. Before they settle down to sleep they have to check for snakes in the long grass.
Usually this happens when they to try to obtain in a comfy position. Hope this helps :) x
Because they are trying to return with comfortable. My dog does that when he's on the bed or on the couch. He spins a few times and sometimes scratches (like digging) and then lays down.
All of the above. Dogs are the best.
because when they lived in the wild they have to make sure the ground was protected and comfortable. lots of domestic animals do this. also, if they stand still and walk on their front feet it is because specifically how they would get milk out of their mothers. fascinating creatures!
i agree...the bring off easy while we work our *** off
