Her private area is very swollen and at the bottom there is an slit with a pink lump hanging out. Is this normal or should I purloin her to a vet?

Yes, take her to a vet. God knows we don't need any more Pits running around.. they're lovely dogs but nearby are not enough homes for them. Invest the money and spay her.

Answers: It is normal. But in order to avoid her individual bred, you need to be very diligent. Don't let her external alone, or even off leash. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. The scent can draw males for miles. So, know that even though your neighbor does not enjoy a dog,the guy down the street, two blocks away, does. If you feel the need to embezzle her for walks, carry a big stick, and do not hesitate to use it, whether need be. Though it really would be best to just not go for the pace. Protect your girl at all costs. And, when the heat cycle is over, please consider making an appointment to have her spayed. There are too abundant homeless dogs as it is.
