1 of my 2 goldfish is hiding at the top of the bowl surrounded by the reeds Ive lone have him 3 weeks, why? is he terrified?
I've noticed that my other goldfish has been acting eratically lately and seem to swim straight into my smaller/new fish.
Yes it is frightened of the other one, and is hiding... It is not welcome to the other one. A bowl is probably too small, desires an aquarium. Fish can bully each other, if you want two get them both small at duplicate time
Well, it sounds similar to your older fish feels threatened. It doesn't like the unsullied company it's received. Most of the time when you bring a new fish into another fish's environment, the older fish will either attack it or avoid it altogether. Yours have attacked the new goldfish, and it's taken to hiding in the reeds to avoid another confrontation. It's best to either furnish them time to get used to each other or if they don't manufacture any progress, move one of them to a new tank.
Hey Dude! did u bring that fish along the other fishes? if not afterwards it might take some time for the new fish to settle down!
or ur fish might be sick or having some parasite problem! only just keep an eye to see if it is having any problem!
Happy fish Keeping! :)
Ah takes ages for them to liven up and not care about society around.
Is the bowl is somewhere where loads of people pass it, it will go and get used to human interaction.
Just give it a while.
Oh and check it isnt dead! (Joking)
Answers: You need to move them to a tank and not keep them surrounded by a bowl. First off it's cruel. It does not get enough oxygen entering it, does not enjoy enough water for two fish to live happily (toxins build up and you hold to frequently - everyday - change some of your water) they do not have enough surface nouns to swim in and need I go on?
My best direction to you will be
1. Get as big as an aquarium that you can afford.
2. Get a filter.
3. Add plants for your fish to hide in
4. Have fun!
Your fish is swimming eractically because you probably need to correct some of your water. Do a 50% change immediately to relive some of the symptoms it's experiencing.
Your elder fish is probably deprived of oxygen hence staying at the top of the bowl to grab fresh water. Please try and get them a trial tank otherwise you'll loose both of them. It sounds to me like you love your fish otherwise you wouldn't post so I wish you luck contained by looking after them :-)
Remember when you change your water add your usual dechlorinator!
