4 batch of mystery snail eggs.ahh?
Should I just get rid of the first batch of eggs?
I get my first batch of mystery snail eggs one week ago but I caught it a week late since they were moved out of the 29gal a while since I caught it (so that makes the first batch two weeks old) I got my moment batch one week ago the day it was laid and my third load two nights ago. I am taking care of them making sure they're moist but keeping them inside of the 10gal because whether they drop in they drop in. The 1st batch is out within a bowl covered 80%. I know that two of my 4 mystery snails is female, 1 must be male, and there is one other that I am not certain what gender it is.During the night I got my fourth load of eggs.
I'm not sure if the 1st batch will survive and whether you think they will I want to keep them but if you don't consider I might as well just get rid of them.
How various weeks does it take for mystery snail eggs to hatch?
I have 50+ little and some almost microscopic mystery snails and possibly a few apples (because I got 15 free since they were babies from their mystery and apple snails.) and 4 big mystery snails. With extra babies I will put them within the ponds that will be set up and in the 29gal once the goldfish go into a 500gal+ pond.
What do I do with the first load?
How long does it take them to hatch?
What other things other than algae wafers can I feed them? Fruits, Veggies?
What are things that I can not nurture them or they will get very sick?
What fruits/veggies are also good for guppies, tetras, and african dwarf frogs. What things save for blood worms and shrimp are good for african dwarf frogs?
Do they really breed faster than bunnies?
Will two 6 inch goldfish eat the little snails or a 5 inch, 4 inch, and 3 inch?
Are mystery snails allowed to go contained by cold water ponds?
Answers: Most likely your mystery snails are actually P. Briggs which are any male or female not both. The eggs will hatch between 9 days to 3 weeks. Usually the first few batches are duds, whether these are the first clutches your females have laid.
When they hatch leave the clutch in the hose down with them for a couple days, the babies will eat off of it. Then you can nurture the algae wafers, lettuce, green beans, broccoli, squash, cucumber, zucchini, etc. Green veggies are best as they have more calcium.
Mystery snails do fine in ponds and yes the goldfish will try to eat the babies, they are omnivores and opportunistic feeders. When they are tiny you can head off them in a breeder net until they get a bit bigger.
I just had my first two clutches hatch the day beforehand yesterday and I got two babies out of them. Although I know more will follow.
Good luck.
edit: They grow very with alacrity so I don't think that many in a 1 gallon is a fitting idea. Also with them growing so quickly it will be easier to see them within a few days.
Here's the good news? You actually enjoy four snails of each sex, that is, Mystery snails are hermaphroditic, they each pass both sets of sex organs. When they breed they both exchange genetic material, so one coupling equals two impregnated (?) snails. I'd guess that the four egg pods that you have will be the total production for this breeding cycle.
Since goldfish are largely lacto-vegetarian the consumption of the small snails by them could easily happen on an accidental reason, but I don't think the fish would actively pursue the snails as a food source.
