Leaving the lights on or off while feeding is a nouns. The only time I turn on the lights is when I actually feed my fish. I condition them so they don't other swim up to the top when they see me. Me does not equal food. Tank lights on equals food. =] But that's just my preference.
You can feed them peas (whole whether they can swallow it; deshelled if they can't), cucumbers, carrots, and lettuce, cut into goldfish bite pieces, of course! =]
I hear that they like oranges too but I have yet to try that. So don't purloin my word for it, haha!
Answers: Although I agree with Patches however you should never steam, microwave or boil your veggies. Raw is the best and the retention of the vits. Slices work better than pieces. The slices of especially lettuce zucchini carrots and cukes can remain contained by the tank for a few days with no need to remove since it will embezzle well over two weeks to even start to rot. Only steamed or cooked veggies will do this. (There are no steamers in nature so no cooked veggies)
You can supplement their diet next to things like Lettuce, mustard greens, turnip greens, collard greens, spinach, peas, Watersprite, seaweed, cukes, kale, chard, broccoli, lima beans, green beans, etc. and feed aquatic plants (e.g. duckweed, azolla, salvenia, etc) or coat algae daily.
For their Carotenoids which are a family of pigments the fish can't make themselves and are obtain as part of the diet. These pigments result in red, yellow and red colors. Fish have cells called chromataphores. Those cell convert lutein and carotenes into astaxanthin which is the red pigment.
sources include, brine shrimp, krill, spirulina, marigold flowers, paprika, sweet red peppers, yams, carrots, pumpkin
Watermellons and oranges are also good as powerfully as proteins like chicken (chicken livers) beef (livers and parts) and pork as well as worms and bugs.
No need to turn stale the light while feeding. Actually feeding your fish or supplementing their diet 3-4 times + per week near these fibers will benefit your goldies.
They have no stomachs like other fish so they need fibers to pass by waste thru their systems.
If you don't want to sully your water with vegetables, you can present your Oscar veggie pellets now and then. It does not own to be raw vegetables.
i would b asking a vet or sumthing instead of unselective ppl on here
spinach...my goldfish love them...it's up to you around the light, as long as they are getting at least room light.
Here's some of the things I give my goldies :)
Orange slices (they love this the most and follow it sucking on it all over the tank!)
blanched romaine lettuce
zuchinni
cucumber (they similar to this more than zuchinni)
Sushi Seaweed bits (nori)
Squashed peas
spinich
Get any uneaten food out of there after a few hours though or it will kill your water.
they love adjectives sorts of greens :) Parboiling them in the microwave and letting them cool to soften them up and cutting them into bite-sized pieces works best.
No necessitate to turn off the tanklight lol. Never heard that one before!
Here's a upright page on feeding goldies :)
