He is going to have to obtain used to you that's for sure.

First keep the aquarium lights out, there really sensitive to restrained and are surface eaters. At least in the begining, remember the light is for you not for him.

Second nurture him and leave..don;t stay he may not feel comfortable yet intake in front of you. Feed small amounts as to not foul the tank.

Between meals sit tremendously still and watch him for like 10 minutes, he needs to get hold of used to you. They fact that he pays attention too you will be a great benefit in the future so be forgiving.

Ask the pet store where you got him what they feed him or even better can they telephone there breeder to see what he feeds them.

stress coat is kinda pointless.

he can go 2-3 days w/o feedings so don't verbs too much. worry more about you spooking him, stress is very doomed to failure.

whats happening to you is not uncommon.

I think the answer from I am Legend is the best place to start.
help yourself to your water in to get tested (free) and research proper Ph for them.

I have elephant noses that would eat anything...it was the pH of the sea. The last thing you would expect but it can play a big role.

good luck!!
ok heres what i've found out about fish none of my fish have shelters exveptmy cichlid tank have a little cave(most of the fish cant fit in ) and a little statue coarl article (only pleco and gree ntexas hang under ) and my black piranha has somewhat cave he hides in (they are mostly nocternalsohes get a day shelter) but the others like my RB piranhas dont have anything to stockpile in but a few things to make him les shy 1.keep frothy on alot-allows him to see u and become more aware of people in the house and surroundings 2. hold out alot of hiding places and leave maybe 1 (just till he gets use to u so he dont hurt himself) and as far as food he may not be hungry fish sometimes arnt hungry or the kindly of food u provide i have baby convicts in beside my Rred bellies and they dont like them but my black piranha when they are put in his tank he loves them so who know but i mean wait a day consequently try maybe a smaller goldfish as food and try what i said see what happens
Answers:    Tank size comes into play a little bit yes, but I think you hold been offering the right foods for the most part. The age and size of this fish matters a bit too. Your sea chemistry should be looked at as well. Was this tank cycled out before you get the fish?

You really need to ditch those freaking goldfish also. Arowana, and I do not care who all posts on this social forum, are not true predator type fish and would not generally eat other fish. An Arowana is a surface feeder, and eats small to large insects and whether old and large enough, even birds and small mammals that would be found on the surface. If you verbs to try to get this fish to eat other fish, two things are going to happen.

1. is that feeder goldfish bought surrounded by stores are given little care and often carry surrounded by unwanted but nasty little pathogens. Your fish will get sick.

2. A higher protein diet of other fish surrounded by an arowana will lead to droop eye which is irreversible short of surgery. It will also teach an Arowana to not look upwards for food anymore and the eye muscles develop downwards due to the higher protein.

Combine that next to the fact that Arowana are very picky eaters, getting them to stop eating other fish will be difficult and confrontational to do.

One thing about fish and their food you need to hang on to in mind is this. They do not need nor use food contained by the same ways people do. They can go awfully long tmes without having food. The lack of appetite lead me to believe there is something very wrong in your hose down chemistry. That's where I'd start looking first. Another thing is, if your Arowana didn't go and get jittery and scared when you came near the reservoir, that would worry me a hell of a lot more then whether it got all happy and excited when you come to the tank. Arwowana are jittery fish and if they aren't doing that, it's not a good article.
