Can fish die whether they devour too plentiful fry?
I dont have any fish but im just wondering. I know some fish usually chomp through the eggs and the fry. Can it actually kill them?
I don't know
I agree with the other posts above that fish will eat themselves to death. I've worked for a leading fish importer for many years now, and witnessed this first hand.
Occasionally, you'll acquire one or two in the group that are extremely aggressive feeders. They'll get very bloated and occasionally die from excessive drinking. I've witnessed this both in fresh water and marine fish. Particularly within wild caught fish, and in schooling fish, the instinct to consume as much as you can as quick as you can is strong.
I suppose that its possible that domestic fish bred and raised for consumption don't engage in this behavior since they're accustomed to human being fed, but then I doubt that any commercial fish hatcheries have ever attempted to dump a significant enough volume of food in the water to see whether the fish will attempt to eat it all.
Anyone on the internet can claim to have a scope or have experience, which may or may not be true. That doesn't necessarily equate to being knowledgable. There's a former vice president with a jurisdoctorate scope in law that spells potato, 'p-o-t-a-t-o-e'.
Answers: Fish are opportunistic feeders. Since food can be scarce in the fanatical, they will instinctively eat all that they can. Like any other food, too much of it all at once can head to death. A fish eating too many fry or eggs adjectives at once can die from it.
Contrary to the bonehead claim below, which is the real source of misinformation, fish can eat themselves to death. This is all right documented by multiple sources. Check it out for yourself.
well its in recent times like regular food. if they eat to much after they will die. but im sure it would take a lot of fry consumption to kill a fish. its just like overfeeding. whether you overfeed they will die. in other words, if they eat to much they will die.
No, contrary to some misinformation, fish will not "guzzle themselves to death" . They will quit eating when they get full.
All due respect to Wes H. and his juvenile name calling, but surrounded by 24 years of ACTUALLY feeding fish, usually until they stop eating , (and I suggest literally millions of fish and of many species) I have NEVER, EVER, not one single time, seen fish die from consumption too much! I read the "sources" that Wes H provided, and ONLY 2 of the 5 suggest that fish can eat themselves to destruction. The other 3 of 5 suggest that too much feeding can kill fish. This is unambiguously true. Excess food combined with excess excrement (fish pooh) is harmful to both aquariums and ponds. As for the 2 sources that suggest that fish will drink themselves to death I stand by my original statement regarding misinformation.
I spinal column my statement with a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree. in fisheries biology and numerous continuing training courses in fish health and nutrition.
No. They only eat their frys whether they extremely hungry or starving. It is just nature,
no its a organic thing for them to eat the eggs and the fry it wont harm them at adjectives good luck
